For summer, I'm planning to go up a size from the oem 18s (235/50) to aftermarket 19s (275/40). Is it a different psi number from what's on the door panel or can I use the same with the 19s as I did with the 18s (32 psi)?

I would set the psi at about 29-30. To take advantage of the additional grip of the wider tires, you need to decrease the tire pressure. At 32 psi, the size of the contact patch of the 235s and 275s will be the same, just a different shape.

If he's going from factory 18's to 19's wouldn't he better off using the psi on the tire? Your door sticker is for 19" tires, is the sticker different for 18's? Just asking, as I will hopefully be going from 19 to 20 next year.

No. I would only change the tire pressure if you're going to a wider tire. The psi on the door jamb is more related to supporting the mass of the car than anything else.
