That's a stretch. I don't think anyone will deny that the V8 will certainly "cruise easier" in the sense that it can accelerate faster or tackle the hills easier due to the increase in torque and power. And most of us are aware that smaller turbocharged engines only get excellent gas mileage under relatively light throttle - throw the hammer down and it mileage goes down the drain.

But to say "GT platform will get better gas mileage than the Ecoboost on the highway."? C'mon, buddy. You're firing 4 more cylinders (no cylinder deactivation on the 5.0), turning much more rotational mass in the engine, and pushing a car that's around 200 lbs heavier. GTs can get pretty good mileage on the highways if you're restrained and not rocking the 3.73 gears, but not better than the EBs. Lots of EB people on here state they get highway mileage in the low-mid 30s, with high 20s combined.

Well I can't speak for the ecoboost, but I average around 28-29 mpg on long distance highway drives in my GT. I've actually seen it read as high as 32 in stretches.

But real world, I average 19-20 in mixed highway/city driving.

When I hit 10k, I averaged 14.7 Mixed driving in LA

Recently went on a cruise (LA to Monterey and back), averaged 22.1

My car is barely at 5.5k miles. Fuel economy has only gone up. Since I learned manual in this car I started of bad lol - 10.8mpg. Now that I've gotten a little better, milage has also gotten a little better

I'm on 3.31 but thinking of upgrading to 3.55 for that nice in between.

In my experience this is incorrect. The EB has no problems cruising highway speeds in overdrive and can stay out of boost while doing it.

I'm running right at 19.45 mpg average since I bought the car in November. 2015 GT M6 3.31 gears. I probably drive close to 50/50, maybe 60/40 highway/city.

And that's not per the dash readout. It typically reads 0.8mpg higher. That number is from my fuel monitor app. Mileage, gallons, and cost per gallon is entered st every fill up.

How are you guys getting almost as much city mpg asn my old 2014 sentra? and more than my v6 mustang? Lol
Im like 90% city and my sentra was getting 21mpg and my v6 stang gets about 18mpg.

2016 gt pp i havent touched the trip meter since i bought it combined driving 22.5mpg in 3k+ miles!

My 2015 GT PP with Airaid and tune, shod with Michelin Cup 2 tires usually gets 25 to 26 cruising to the track and back. 90 miles each way, 6th gear. Tires make all the difference. If I have slicks on I get 27.5 same drive. Bothell, Was. To Shelton WA. Performance level about equal to the Porsche GT4 or BMW M4 with similar tires.

From La Plata but most of my work driving is in St. Mary's; (Rt. 6, Rt.5, 247) but yeah--I don't see anywhere near as many as I used to. mostly Mennonites left I think

It's probably good to take a lot of opinions and weigh them. Every time this topic comes up, you'll get GT owners that swear they get 28 MPG and you'll get EB owners that say they get 34. You'll also see GT owners say they get 12 and EB owners say they get 20.

You asked about the gears? I can tell you if you want better gas mileage, stick with the lower ratio gears like what comes on the base. I have the EB PP which comes with 3.55. Driving on the highway as easy as I can, I'll get 29. Mixed driving city/HW I get 25. I truly believe people with 3.15(?) or 3.31(?) gears get much better.

Either way, it is a very significant difference between EB and GT if people are really honest. The problem is you'll get a lot of GT owners that try to defend their gas mileage and tell a very exaggerated story that will leave you disappointed if MPG is your goal. I had the same goal because I was commuting about 100 miles/day when I bought the car. I really wanted the GT but was very concerned about MPG so went with the EB. Later I was questioning my decision after reading peoples posts here. Then I met a local guy with a GT and he told me (showed me) his mixed driving which was similar to mine he was getting 17 MPG compared to my 25.

The nice thing is even though I'm not commuting so far any more, I still love the EB! I miss the sound of my GTs, the EB sounds like crap but it is a lot of fun to drive, very light, nimble and peppy.

If you're looking at a 2015 EB, pay close attention to the build date. You'll want one that's engine was built in the Cleveland plant rather than Valencia Spain. Engines built before 3/15 were from Spain and we've had some engines blowing. Some time in March 2015, they moved them to Cleveland and made some minor changes in parts and assembly and they have been very reliable. Mine is a Spain engine and I've had no issues.

I have a GT Premium 6A with the standard 3.15 gears. In 16,000 miles, I have never had a tank under 20 mpg. Freeway is an easy 27-28 mpg, maybe a little more. Overall average hangs about 23 for my mix of suburban and open road driving. Not bad for a car that will run high 12s.
