I think Dodge branding the Ram to distance itself from Dodge. Same thing with Jeep.

The branding of the Mustang-E in my opinion is more for guaranteed publicity more than anything. Ford has dumped a large amount of capital into developing an Eletric platform. The Mustang branding was just a cheap way to make sure it would be talked about. Call it free marketing.

I don’t think in my lifetime has Ford created a brand new platform with almost no parts carryover. Considering Ford bonds are no longer investment grade(junk bonds) this is very important for FMC going forward.
Its the 1970s all over again...

Here's whats going on...

Ford is looking at sales and seeing most people are buying crossovers. The engineers came up with a prototype for an electric suv to compete with tesla

The branding team arent car guys they don't understand why Mustangs sell as well as they do. They think people are buying the car because of the brand not because of the car itself so they decided to put the badge on this car hoping it will sell...

It's like going to Vegas... They put different skins on the same slot machines....

Unfortunately there are enough chai latte drinking morons who will buy this piece of shit and management will thing the SUV mustang "outsells" the coupe and will discontinue the coupes...

Then in a few years people will make videos of the mach-es issues that will tank the sales and it will be the end of that...

In the meantime the morons who came up with this piece of shit will collect their bonuses and move on to fuck up another company...

Ford is playing a dangerous game by trying too hard to be trendy instead of being original.

I'm not a huge Dodge fan, but I really appreciate how they've kept the retro look of the Challenger going.

If Ford brought back the 2005-09 body style with the 5.0 under the hood, I wouldn't be able to get to the dealership quick enough. :)

This is my fear too.

If Ford wants to make a Mustang-inspired crossover, fine.

But, directly attaching the Mustang name and heritage to it is a big mistake and here's why I feel that way:

1. If it sells well, the traditional Mustang will be gone.

2. If it fails, the Mustang image takes an even bigger hit than it has taken already because of the Mach E.

Let me put it another way. Let's suppose the Probe replaced the Mustang back in 1989.

Was it a decent car? After having owned four Probes (two of each generation), I'd say I thought they were decent.

Would they have been a good replacement for the Mustang?

Absolutely not.

The Probe got discontinued after the 97 model year, and the Mustang has lived on.

Honestly, everyone at Ford needs to watch all of the marketing that was done starting from the 2005 model year onward, along with A Faster Horse. Both were exceptionally done.
