I am assembling my built engine and looking at the DI pump which has an o-ring where it engages with the head, but there is a recession in the surface of the pump that looks like it might need a gasket. The surface of the head where the two meet is machined smooth so I am trying to figure out if there is anything else needed to seal these two together.

Did one come off with the original engine? I do know you're supposed to replace the bolts though

Not speaking from direct experience, but the way that o-ring seals you should not need anything additional on that surface. The o-ring will take care of it all. Also, I doubt you need to replace the studs. There would be no reason that they would be torque to yield.

Sorry, I was misremembering. It's the bracket bolt that's one time use for some reason. I agree though, since it's only sealing oil that oring should be sufficient.

That O ring will seal the hole just fine. The bolt has red Loctite on it and it's a bit of a bitch to take off. Ford's standard shop procedure is to throw away ANY bolt that comes with Loctite pre-applied. I re-used my bolt. There was enough remaining Loctite on it as it was. No issues doing doing so.

Yes, Ford says to throw away bolts that have thread locker installed but all you have to do is clean it up and reapply if you'd like.
