Hi all.

I need some help. Here's the situation. I ordered my Mustang Jan. 7, and she arrived at the dealership late today. I can pick her up Monday.

Here's where it gets complicated. When I ordered the car, I was an idiot. Basically walked in one night and believed everything the sales guy told me -- that I had to pay MSRP for an "in-demand" ordered car. So we ordered the car for around $48,800, with me agreeing to take $7K for my 2007 GT/CS convertible on trade.

When I got home, an hour on the Internet revealed the error of my ways. So I immediately joined MCA. I called my dealer the next day and told him I was eligible for X plan. His response was they'd have to "renegotiate" the price of my trade in if I did X plan. So I dropped it.

But it's been bugging me ever since. Anyway, today I was able to sell my current car for $8K, $1K more than dealer offered. Since the trade is off the table, in my mind, I should now be able to get X plan pricing.

My sales guy has not responded positively to this. He's told me they "don't make anything" on X plan, that he's going to get in trouble, that the manager may refuse to sell me the car at that price, etc.

On top of all this, the car came in today. EDD was showing 2/27. So this is all coming to a head Monday. What should I do? I wasn't trying to mislead them, but it was better for me to sell my car than trade it. And the dealership accepts X plan on mustangs -- including ordered ones. They've confirmed that. So can they deny it to me? Am in in the wrong for asking?

Thanks.

the part in bold is a lie....they do make money on xplan purchases. I thought it was posted awhile back they make like $2k on an xplan deal...I could be wrong on the amount.

They make money from Ford. Salesman is FOS in more than one way. I would find another dealership. Even better, find another willing to wholesale it from their lot, if they're willing after the guy who ordered it cancelled, and still sell it to you for a better price. Finally, drive it up to original dealership and "show" the original salesman and let him figure out what he lost....

Walk away from them if they don't play.

Better yet, tell them fine, accept the x plan And eaa, and I'm ok if we have to renegotiate the trade.
Then go in and get the deal written up and when it comes to the trade, tell them not to worry about a trade, you are going to keep it.

How many miles were on your 07 Gt/CS convertible....
Right at 114,000. Car was in decent shape -- it was my daily driver and was showing its age, especially the interior. I know I could have gotten more if I'd worked at it, but I just didn't have a lot of time to spend on it. So I was happy to get the $8K with no hassle.

Everyone,

Thanks so much for your replies so far. I appreciate the support. I really want to do the fair and right thing here -- I'm not trying to play games with the dealership.

The sales guy was telling me how I "jumped the line" and got my order put in front of X plan orders and saying how it's not fair for me to get X plan pricing now. He said another customer ordering X plan isn't getting his car until April -- which seems completely unlikely to me. I call BS on that because I know from COTUS that there was another Mustang convertible ordered a week after mine and delivered 11 days ago --so it's not like my car was in the top spot.

Anyway, I think because I'm a "blond girl" -- and because I didn't go in with my research done up front -- I was an easy mark from the start. But with everything I've learned on here the past couple of months, I just couldn't sit back and take the deal as it originally stood.

I'm really hopeful the dealership will sell me the car at X plan pricing Monday. If not, there's a car at a dealership an hour away with the exact same options I ordered -- just a different color. I'll go there if I have to. I just don't want to. I want the car I've watched being built for the past two months.

My wife and I need an intervention because we buy at least one new car a year (this year it will be 3). With all that experience I can tell you they are playing on your emotions. It's a business deal that you should do the best YOU can at...your best is x-plan. Tell them firmly and politely it will be x-plan or you will go an hour away and get x-plan pricing. I would give them a realistic deadline to respond. Chances are very high they will try and counter but in the end will settle for x-plan if there have been mustangs sitting on their lot. Just be prepared to take that trip if they don't respond.

. Do as Joe Walsh sang when he played for the Band James Gang and "Walk Away"...there are plenty of dealers out there that will work with you, especially with cash in hand and believe me, that car you walk away from will sell!

At the end of the day you can't control what the dealer will do. You can, however control what you are going to do. Push for X-plan or walk. X-plan helps with a cap on fees (100), and solid pricing. In addition (not because of plan),you are also eligible for any incentives since you ordered, with the incentive protection program from Ford. I took delivery of mine about 9 days ago, but got incentives (1250) that officially expired in Jan. My dealer never tried to renegotiate trade in but I sold he car outright to another dealer for +2k relative to the trade. I was Xplan from the start, but the deal was never leveraged because of it. I did get a priority of 19 for the order. Could have been higher I guess, but I don't think it was low because of Xplan, although possible. I did buy ESP, but online from a dealer in MA. Great deal.
I had a great relationship with my dealer, but my role was to seek best value for me in all elements of the deal. I hope you can get the car you want at a price that is fair for you and the dealer (but really fair for you!) Good luck.

X plan doesn't affect when the car is built.

Go for x plan or let them refuse to sell you the car. Find another dealership who isn't playing on your emotion of wanting a new car. That's my advice

But it's your money. If you go eleewhwe, you may end up waiting awhile for another car depending on when it could be built.

The guy not getting his car till April is more likely due to commodity.

Go to the other dealer, buy the car from them and have the one you ordered dealer transferred to them. :D (At least see if they'd do that for you)
