I wouldn't take a car I wasn't happy with. A good deal can only be had on a car you're happy with. I'd search dealer inventory for the closest thing you're looking for and go with it.

Don't accept it unless fixed.

Don't pay etching. If you didn't agree to it and they did it, their fault. Mine was done before I was asked and they nixed it (thank goodness they didn't etch the louvered ones!).

i know this won't be popular, sorry but.....

I understand the want to have a "perfect" car. But SOME of these issues people are being a little nit picky over a couple millimeters.

It is a $40k Ford, not a $400k Bentley. to institute the kind of tolerances and QA being expected would add thousands in cost.

I agree with your cost vs. quality assessments. German cars in the same price range have way better paint though!

40k is still quite a bit of money. Enough to expect aligned panels. To an extent anyways. If he's got to get a micrometer out then I agree let it go.
