I got a Mishimoto AIT today & went to put it in. Of course I have to remove the Steeda Strut brace. Well when I went to remove it 2 nuts stripped out and want move. I got them from Home depot and they are cheapos. Guess I torqued them down too much. How can I remove them? Please help. Or am I screwed?

You will have to cut the bolt with a dremel/similar and a metal cutting wheel. I wouldn't use a torch unless you know what you're doing. Many mechanics shops can do it, probably won't charge too much - will only take them 10 minutes.

Is the nut rounded or the threads stripped? If the nut is rounded you can get sockets that dig into the metal and may work. I had to use these Irwin brand ones to get a stripped bolt out of my Honda daily timing chain tensioner because some dipshyte stripped it the last time the belt was done.

thanks so much. I am really sweating it. Taking the brace off for good and getting rid of it soon! its a hassle removing it all the time.

I took the engine cover off to put another on. Then was having to take it off to get the AirAid MIT off and the Mishimoto on. So not often but too often.

The brace isn't decorative.

Why are you removing that to do a CAI/intake tube? You don't need to. The engine cover will slide out under the strut brace once you pop it off the four studs, also.

Did you break the welds on the studs?

did not break any welds. I got the Steeda Brace used with no hardware, it has no spacers so it sits lower, the engine cover won't even pull up a little with it on. Once I get this fixed gonna sell the Steeda brace and get the Mishimoto or FRPP one.

Thanks for the PM. it wasn't your part that failed. It was the cheapo nuts from home depot. Took car to my ford dealer. $29.99 for new nuts, $118.00 for labor. Also need a new left strut mount as the post is now stripped. Had to order a new one for $33 but dealership wants to charge me $390 to install it. Ouch. Gonna pick up the part & find somewhere/someone else to install it. I love Steeda & will always use their suspension parts when possible.

You must have went crazy torqing them down. I've removed my factory brace probably 5 times are so. I hope you're not torqing them down with a breaker bar.

haha, that's not what happened. Steeda tech pm'd me. It was the cheapo nuts along with Ford using different threads. It was all my fault for not ordering replacement hardware from Steeda to begin with.
