Got a decision to make here. I may be selling the '15 GT for an SUV, probably an Explorer. We have a '05 Ram diesel pickup with 120k on it, my '05 blown/stroked Mustang GT with 21k on it and my '15 GT premium with 8200 miles on it. I have to keep the pickup for obvious reasons, hauling, towing etc. I'd lose my ass on the '05 if I sold it as I dropped serious clams in that car. I probably wouldn't ever sell it anyway.

Anyway, the wife asked if I would consider selling the '15 GT for an SUV because it really would make sense. We have 3 grandkids now, the wife can't drive a standard shift (my Mustangs). The problem is, my '15 is such a pleasure to drive, never gets old. It's seriously under powered compared to my '05 which is the only down side. The only mods are H-pipe, GT500 mufflers, lowered 1'', Custom Car Grills perforated metal upper and lower grill and wheel spacers.

I ordered the '15 new nearly 3 years ago. The car is a premium magnetic 401a package. The only other option was 19'' dark stainless wheels. It's been a perfect car, no noises, shifts perfectly, a/c has been great and I really cannot think of any complaints at all. What can I expect to realistically to get for it being a perfect condition, garage kept car with not even any paint chips? It literally is in showroom condition. I would get it inspected and sell it myself without doing a trade in.

I haven't decided to do this yet, I'm pretty much considering doing it because my wife asked me to consider it. It does make sense, but I would seriously miss the car because it's probably the most satisfying car I've ever had, but under powered compared to the beast sitting next to it which is not nearly as refined as the '15. The '05 is not only blown/stroked, but has stage 2 cams and wreaks of raw fuel sitting at red lights. It's a serious business fast car and I drive it a lot less having the '15 GT here.

So do you need more seating or just auto? What's wrong with hauling grandkids in the truck?

KBB and TrueCar can probably give you a good idea of range to be in. What are you saving the '05 for? It isn't appreciating in value and you're driving less than 1.5k per year.

I do haul a 25' boat with a big block in it. I need a pickup for that and loads of dirt, rocks, mulch, but I guess I could buy a trailer for hauling. I'd need an SUV big enough to pull that boat.

The '05 car I just don't think I'd ever sell. I have a lot of history with it. I don't know, just throwing it out there for a conversation to help make a decision

Very simple... Sell the two old cars, get a new Explorer.

Don't need to get rid of 2, but I'd lose my ass on the '05

If you are looking at an Explorer, you might wait for the 2020 ST. I believe it's rated at 400/410. Pretty big SUV, but I bet it will be pretty quick.

There's always a Trackhawk if you want to move right along.

Either way, I don't have to do anything right now. Just considering my options.

The 2020 explorers are in preproduction now, and will be on the lots by mid summer. It went back to a rear wheel drive platform so towing capacity went way up. Stick with the new explorer ST or the platinum, The st gets a 400 hp 3.0 twin turbo v6 and the platinum get a 365 hp 3.0. Stay away from the limited and xlt as they get a 300 hp 2.3 ecoboost. The platinum and ST have a tow rating of 5,600 lbs. If you need more than that look at an expedition, they get the same 3.5 ecoboost used in the F150's rated at 375 hp for the base one and 450 for the upgraded one.

I’d sell the 05 Mustang. You can get the money for boosting your 15 Mustang and probably blow your 05 after boosting.

My boat is over 6000 lbs. I'd probably keep the diesel pickup and keep the '05 beast. I'd rather not start modding the hell out of the '15. It starts with the blower, then the suspension, axles, clutch...it never ends. I think it all comes down to selling the '15 GT and replacing it with an SUV. Any word on what the ST and Platinum will sticker for?

You can go to ford and build and price one now, A loaded up ST is around 60K

If your not going to tow with it, there is no need for the new 20 explorer, get a 19 sport or platinum, they both have the same 3.5 ecoboost that is in the taurus SHO, the 11-19 explorers are fwd based but they are a lot cheaper. My loaded 18 sport stickered for 53K and I paid 44K

I was kind of disappointed in the '19 Explorer Sport that I test drove. It was pretty lethargic. I was expecting more from the 3.5. My '13 F-150 is sooooo much quicker (although it does have downpipes, exhaust, and a tune). The Edge ST is much quicker (and I know lighter which makes a difference) than the Explorer Sport. If you don't need a third row, the Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 5.7 is pretty responsive and can tow your boat for less than $50K. I ended up with the Jeep. First Chrysler product I've ever owned, but really happy with it so far.

You always lose money when selling a car. Which vehicle do you use the most? The new GT, Truck, or the old 05 stang? Do you really need a huge SUV for grandkids, or it is a want? How often are you really going to haul them around, and isnt your truck a quad cab for that?

Being that you have grandkids, can we speculate your over 50yrs old? If so, enjoy your life and life it to the fullest for death waits for no one. Morbid but true..
