Cut a hole in the bottom of each light and with a bit of keyhole surgery put the led boards in place.
Hi John.

Were these the AU delivered headlight surrounds, or US spec ones.
The reason I ask, do the AU ones have a reflector "thingy" that has to be removed / muscled out?

Regards
Paul

Finally after several false starts it is done. These are bloody awesome, changes the whole appearance of the front of the car in my opinion the crappy photo below does not do them justice.

A big shout out to Banditvox , for your advice, I owe you a beer or two.
Also yellowpony , for your input.
And one of the euro pioneers in this papinist , I read your write up on removing the front bar months ago.
And of course Diode Dynamics , for persevering with getting the kit right for cars that are different to the ones they have access to in the US.

Sorry about the crap photos, photography is just not my thing...
Great! This is how the Mustang should look from the beginning! Damn Ford
Glad that my thread\guide was of help :)

Hi Paul,

these were the lights that came with the car, so AU lights. Did not have to remove any reflector " thingy". If you had US spec lights then you would have trouble with this method as I don't know how you would get the original OEM boards out. They have the pins melted over the board to hold them in place, and you have to grind / file them away and you would not be able to get in there to do that with this method. So for US spec lights I think you would have no choice but to split the light in an oven or cut a really big section of the back out like frozenpea did.

Cheers

John

Hi John
Did you take any photos of your "cut" in the bottom of your light, I would hate to cut them in the wrong place :eyebulge::eyebulge:

Thanks John.

For some silly reason I thought that you had sourced a set of US Spec lights.
And I believed we had a "reflector thingy"
So wrongly on both counts:headbonk:
All the more easier for us now.

Once again you have lead the way with details.
We really need to pay you not a spotters fee, but a pioneer fee:lol:

On a side note, I am going to Tempe tomorrow morning to purchase the "Gnome Spare"

I tired to source a trashed US light to cut up but in the end gave up.
I can't take any credit for being a pioneer on these, guys like Banditvox, did the work before me and pointed me in the right direction.

Tell Sam he really needs to send me a commission on these......
I thought he ran out of them again, have you rang to make sure he has them in stock?

Yes Banditvox is a legend:hail:

I rang today and spoke with Dominic and he assured me he has one for me tomorrow

Looks like there are still a few niggling things with the new drivers, maybe by design maybe not. Have asked DD what the story is but in a nutshell if you remove the original blinker globes you get the fast flashing on the dash blinker light intermittently, may need resistors to overcome this. And if you leave the original parking light globes connected the leds flicker when in low brightness mode with the parkers or headlights on. Also the instructions have the DRL and Parker wire colours back to front. Will see what they come back with about this. Should not be hard to overcome but maybe they have some tips on this. If you think you turn heads already in a Mustang you should see the attention you get with sequential blinkers.....

About the fast flashing, I could consider this 'normal': removing the stock turning light bulb is not recommended because at night and with headlights on, the sequential turning is less visible and you could be pulled by police. I recommend to use some amber led bulbs with integrated resistors for turning light, or better, a pair of switchbacks so you will have the turning light housing lit in white when the parking lights are on, switching to amber when turning. Very cool!

Instead, regarding the parking lights this seems really a design flaw. The new drls should work with or without parking lights connected. Or at least, mine do :)
Also, the original parking light bulbs draw very little current so what's the matter with those?

I had the same fast flashing problem while replacing my stock bulb with a LED bulb. After the installation of a set of resistor, the fast flashing disapeared.
So, seems you are in the same case as me.

And I can confirm what papinist said about keeping the stock bulb, I also have the sequential turn signal and at night, they are not so good visible. In addition to that, I swapped our crap 25w HID to the US 35w HID, now, they are even less visible than before

And the problem with the parking light is really weird, let's see what DD said about that.

Very good point about removing the original indicator, with the headlight on the sequential one may not be easily seen, so this may be how they were designed.

The DD kit doesn't have a separate 12V power feed like some other kits. My guess is that the parking light circuit is very low power and doesn't have enough "juice" to run the leds and the original globe together. Anyway with the original indicator globes in and the original parking light disconnected they do seem to work as they should so maybe they are meant to be like this. I will find out when the DD guys come back to me.

Actually I prefer to have the stock parking lights connected and replaced with led bulbs rather than completely disconnected. Also, with switchbacks in turning lights, the entire housing looks better :)

I just quote this part, Papinist and some others, have connected the Switchbacks to the parking light bulb. When both are on, nothing flashes/flickers, so seems the circuit can provide enough power for that. But they changed the OEM bulb for a LED one, do you have a OEM or LED parking bulb on your car Gnome ?

Maybe I'm wrong and Papinist can correct this point :D
