There is a reason Ford made our DRLs different and didn't just use the headlights or additional single bulbs in the HL housings. They don't look like everyone else's DRLs, are a tribute to the early Mustang styling gills, and meet government regs requiring DRLs. Lastly, are very appropriately named as Signature Lighting!

If you think cops won't notice a brand new mustang going 20mph+ over the speed limit at 90 vs one with DRL on that is going 90 you're very sadly mistaken. It's just as bad as a C7 or exotic right now since there are so few on the road.

From a half mile or more, you can't tell one car from another, but if the headlights or DRL's are on, you're gonna stand out and your speed's gonna get noticed. The cops can kiss my ass. Who the hell buys a Mustang GT to drive the speed limit anyway? If you're gonna drive the speed limit, save some money and buy a Kia.

If you want to go fast, take it to the track. Speed limits exist for a reason. Obviously nobody is going to say anything if you're going 70 in a 65, but if you want to drive 90 mph you really should be doing that on a drag strip or road course.

It depends on the road and traffic conditions. There are some places where I drive below the speed limit. The Florida Turnpike is full of cars travelling 90+. It's a flat, straight road and with a modern high performance car like a Mustang, 90 is nothing.

90 doesn't seem fast in this car, sure; until you have to stop or swerve suddenly. I know I wouldn't appreciate being hit by someone going that fast, regardless of the road I'm on. :frusty: Maybe if they have their DLRs on, I would see them coming and I could move out of their way :shrug:

I have nothing against DRL's. I always use my headlights when driving on a two lane highway. I think they are a great safety feature. But, I travel frequently from Ft. Lauderdale to north Florida on the freeway. I usually cruise along at about 90+. I don't want to draw any unnecessary attention to myself. A speeding vehicle is far more obvious to a cop when the DRL's or headlights are on during the day. That's the only reason I want them off. If I have to tear the whole front end of my car off to get to them, I can assure you, they will be off soon.

Think about it from another perspective. Turning the lights off may make it less likely for a cop to see you. If that is true, then turning them off also make it less likely for other drivers to see you, unless Florida cops have worse vision than the blue-haired granny in the Buick who can't see over the steering wheel. So those DRLs might make her see you before she pulls into the left lane just in time for you to read her "#1 Great-Gramma" bumper sticker before shoving that grill pony squarely up her rear end...

DRLs are here to stay because they make it safer to do 90mph on the highway, just like airbags and seatbelts. If you're concerned about getting caught speeding, get a radar dectector and save the car from your shadetree mechanic shenanigans.

If it's dark and there are no cars on the road, why worry about your DRLs?

While I think the concern forth drl is pretty silly, I will come to his defense on the FL Turnpike speeds in FL. 85-90 isn't uncommon at all for traffic in the left lane. Even in S. Florida where there is a lot more traffic, 80 is the norm. Hell, statewide 10mph over is the norm on all roads.

I'm not an extroverted or aggressive person, nor do I have much need to attract attention or have any interest in 'style', so I actively do not want my car to be all decorated with lights all the time.

If/when conditions warrant, there's still a nice little switch somewhere for me to use to make my car more readily visible.
