The dealership put a couple scratches on my dashboard around the A pillars. I wasn't that bothered as I thought they'd have an easy way to cosmetically repair or hide them. I just asked them to clean them up.

They laughed about it and said they were too small to worry about and they didn't have a way to fix without replacing the whole dashboard.

Is it really that hard for a dealership to fix? I thought they reconditioned vehicles on a daily basis.

Dealerships are typically the reason people stay away. They find any reason to not take responsibility for anything. Granted some are good in the service department, but most leave a lot to consider. You'll find smaller shops care more about vehicles than dealership service departments.

That is the biggest crock of horse-shit I have heard. If they caused enough damage and admitted that (however small they think they are) fixing it warrants an entirely new dashboard... I'd say that is pretty substantial?

Agree with Zelek and this is why I have trust issues with dealerships. There is zero accountability and carelessness left and right. I only go if it's absolutely necessary.

Are the scratches on:

1) L or R A-pillar plastics
2) dashboard inserts (silver, black or gray pieces)
3) top of soft dash sections on passenger or driver side

If # 1 or 2, those pieces can be replaced.

If # 3, that is part of the dash assembly and it cannot be replaced as individual parts, the entire dash has to come out and be replaced.

The thing is, if it’s #3, we all know it will bug you each and every day to know and see your brand new car has imperfections, caused by a Dealership. I’d call the Ford 800# and lodge a complaint about their service and treatment.

Insist you be able to put the same kind of small scratches in some of their showroom cars. That should be acceptable too right? Tit for tat.

The funny part of the whole story is the Jamaican porter. The service rep looked at my car and said he couldn't see anything. Then without skipping a beat the porter starts tapping on the mark and says, "It's right here. The man bought a bought a new car. He deserves to get it back in the same condition."

If I had my way that porter would be running the whole damn dealership!

And really, I'd have been ok if they just said they don't fix that stuff instead of pretending not to see it, laugh about it being too minor and then claiming they would have to replace the entire dashboard.

I used to do vinyl and leather repairs on my old cars when I was a teenager. I don't recall it was that hard.

Find a upholstery shop, have them look at it, and bill the dealer.
