The throttle mapping is very much changed on the premium package drive modes.

With your foot on the gas cruising at a set speed, switching into sport+ will actually cause the car to accelerate (with no change of foot position on the throttle).

I personally doubt the non-premium cars drive modes are the same as the premium pack - based on the forum member's descriptions.

Interesting. I didn't try set speed changes and will try it at the first opportunity with and without cruise control.

If I get an 18 it will be a base GT, 10A, PP, 301A, and MagneRide. 301A will include the 18 version of drive modes plus whatever sport mode for the automatic adds. Lots of variables to test.

Actually it is the "law"because the vast majority of US drivers, including performance car drivers, don't have the driving skills and/or the attention span to be able to handle a lot of situations and even the best drivers can benefit from help when things go suddenly bad.

Anyway, lots of performance cars from companies other than Ford and GM do not have the option to disable the nannies.

Back on the original topic of drive mode differences and especially throttle feel.

My car is a base GT PP so my modes are normal, sport (same as track in drive mode cars), TC off, and Advance Trac off. No tune.

I cannot feel any "throttle response" difference between the modes. I've driven cars in the past with very non linear throttle response (i.e. the pedal ratio opens the throttle blades much quicker at first to make the car feel more powerful than it really is) so I have a decent idea what to look for.

I believe the Base modes are not really modes in the way they are implemented on premium - so you shouldn't see any throttle response change because it is they all have the same mapping on Base. It is hard to miss on Premium, easiest to notice when you switch from normal to Track during acceleration.

With the cruise control you probably one notice anything as the ECU is in control of the throttle and will prevent you from changing speed.

Simply have your foot on the throttle, and switch modes. You can hear the difference in throttle position (despite you foot not changing position).

I don't think this is the case for steering modes though. You can change from normal to sport and it will initially show what mode you're in, but won't continue to display on the screen after.

This is true, the first click of the steering mode switch will show the current steering mode, and subsequent ones (if within a second or two) will switch (where it shows the display of which you have switched to).

The drive mode always resets to Normal, but the steering mode seems to stay where you had it last after a restart.

Once drive modes are enabled on a base model using premium toggles, there's definitely a difference in throttle response. Even on my base V6 that was never supposed to have drive modes.

If you're referring to base drive modes, such as just turning off advancetrac and such, then you're correct. Turning traction control off or disabling advancetrac did nothing for the throttle.

I confirmed that at least with my 2015 base GT PP changing between "normal" and "sport" makes absolutely no difference in speed or feel at various speeds and in various gears. I even used a Garmin gps to monitor speed more accurately than the speedometer needle.

However based on input from those of you who have driven premium version cars with their drive modes clearly have a different "feel" and throttle position mapping in the different modes.

Since my base GT has plenty of response with the slightest throttle movement it appears that the drive mode cars may make the cars feel slower in both normal and wet and may be the same or more responsive than the base versions in sport+ and track modes. I assume sport shifter position with an automatic doesn't change throttle feel. Only shift related stuff unless the driver selects different drive modes also. Correct?

Learn something new every day! Learning a 2018 GTPP 10A with 301A and drive modes plus MagneRide will be very interesting.

Does anyone know if there is a difference in drive modes on a Premium GT once you have PP2 installed?
