I recently acquired a light duty DA polisher with an 8mm throw. I intend to use it solely to apply sealants and wax NOT for paint correction (if/when I need that done, I will leave it to the pros). My CA Special has side stripe decals, and I have never used a power polisher on vehicle with stripe decals before. Should I worry about masking them off when applying sealant or wax? I have seen a few videos recommending masking when applying polishing compound for paint correction, but there seems to be some mixed opinion about sealants and waxes (the concern being that you can damage the edge of the decal).

My concern around decals is more product/wax build up along the edge that's hard to remove. I'd suggest going along the edge of the decals by hand.

That would be my first concern and I would mask them up if you intend to polish.

If you are going to use traditional paste/liquid waxes and sealants, I would still mask them off and not apply those products to the stripes. Once you have finished the rest of the car, I would come back with and apply a spray sealant to the striped.
