Convertible exhaust drone Help

Hi there.

Finally got my car out of storage last night!

I forgot how great it sounds, but I also forgot how the car drones in the lower RPMs

So, I’m looking for an axle back with bite when I’m on it but zero drone when cruising.

Will be leaving the stock suitcase resonator but may eventually do the Mak cat delete.

Convertible with the CJPP / SVE axle back right now.

The harmonics must be different between the coupe and convertible. So looking for convertible guys with aftermarket exhaust to chime in.

Well obviously I'll throw Corsa Touring out there because reasons (look below ). They will NOT drone. Period. Borla won't either though too.

Definitely harder to get these drop tops sounding good. Add to that we have limited choices..I’ll tell ya my story.


First mod was an H pipe……junk only made the car raspier


Second mod was an MBRP cat back- no drone but raspy as hell


I put on 3” Mak cat deletes and the car became very raspy and a little droney as well. Almost undriveable at this point


Added Maganflow bottle resonators and that knocked the drone down completely and most of the raspyness as well.


I still wasn’t thrilled with the sound so I replaced the MBRP with Magnaflow 12229 welded in. These are similar to the Maganflow street but angled so they muffle a little better.


The moral of this story is that the cat deletes are a game changer when it comes to sound, so plan ahead!

What does the Magnaflow sound like? Deep? Quiet at low rpm and cruising with volume when on it?

Any drone currently?

First I’d like to just try them with the suitcase in place of the CJPP right now. I do anticipate doing the Cat delete at some point down the road. So yea, plan wisely.

I want to get rid of the drone. I love the current sound but need less drone cruising...

@Torinate Thats exactly what they sound like. To your point though I think your answer might lie in th resonator more than the mufflers.

I do have some clips that I'll post later if I remember.

I had a look st the mufflers, there’s. Bunch of different ones. Which did you get? Mostly concerned with drone. Now and when the cat deletes happen. I know the suitcase is big and heavy, but if it’s the best to stop drone then it stays.

I know Borla Corsa and AWE are great, but honestly I’d be looking at $1500 for 2 mufflers basically (axle back) and 16” of pipe. Hard to swallow IF there are alternatives that fit the bill. I honestly love the current sound but the drone...

I waited for a sale at AM for my AWE axlebacks. I got an under $700 price and I put a discount code on top of that. Shipped to NL, I got these baby’s for under $700. For us Canadians, that was a wicked deal. So if you have some patience, you may get a deal similar to mine. And even if you don’t get a better deal, these axle backs sound as others costing almost double the price

And best of all “NO DRONE!!!!!!”

You can get the Corsa axlebacks new for under $1000 US. Hypermotive and Beefcake have excellent pricing if you contact them.

Yes... That was US pricing.

No regrets what-so-ever. There are others in the same price range. All I can say is these AWE’s are sounding perfect for me.

Nope. The drone is from the muffler design not the midpipe.
