After ALOT of research and running H-pipe res delete on stock mufflers, I put on the Roush axelbacks, BUT also added a couple bottle resonators (see sig). As others say, no drone, but with resonators it has a low mean rumble, no pops, crackles or rasp. It roars when I get on it, and is not offensively loud under cruising speeds. That is if your driving alone. I didn't notice the volume until I had a passenger and tried to have a conversation. We had to talk at a louder volume to hear each other I don't like loud for the sake of loud, I just wanted the classic muscle car sound and these seem to fit the bill.

My ears may be different. OP, you talked about low rpm drone. For me that was the resonator on my ā€˜16. Cranking it up in the garage or stopping beside a barrier wall, it had that loud drone while idling or creeping along in traffic. After removing it and going with a H pipe, it made it quieter inside the car. It made the stock mufflers a little louder out the back, but not enough to really notice a difference from within the car. After removing the sound tube and the resonator, I can’t hear much of anything forward of the mufflers. I’m thinking of trying CJPP axle backs to get the volume.

If your talking about getting drone at 1800-2000 rpms, total different thing. Can’t say on that.

Thanks.

I thought leaving the suitcase would be the answer...

I’d like more than an H or X with stock mufflers but no drone. Quiet at lower revs and cruising but a nice bark when on it.

From everything I read about the H pipe and how it made the exhaust a little deeper n louder, nothing I remember reading mentioned it made the cabin quieter. They say the resonator is there to eliminate or control certain frequencies. I agree, but I also think they designed it to make the cabin louder to give it that muscle car hum without actually making the car loud. When ever the wife pulled in the garage I could hear the car from the living room. Now, without the reasonator, I can barely hear it if I hear it at all. From not having the sound tube and resonator it’s a very quiet engine. That’s my take on it, if it helps. The downside is it may make your axle backs louder or drone worse at the 2k rpm range.

Well, drone was out in full force today...

Son had a soccer tournament an hour from home. We got caught in rain so the top went up. Well, needless to say, my wife was less than impressed. Complaints of headache and noise hurting her ears. Ended up having to drive home an hour with the top up in the heart of the drone RPM due to traffic.

So, time for something with bark but quiet at cruise RPMs. Something with NO DRONE. Axle back as I will leave the suitcase.

So I’m thinking the AWE or perhaps Borla touring. But, I’ve heard the Borla May drone. Cora’s of course, but crazy money for basically a pair of mufflers.

Anyone have any drone in a convertible with top up with either Borla or the AWE?

Can anyone vouch without a doubt of an axleback without any sign of drone? I don’t want to do this again... lol

Thank you!!

Can be had used for $600-800, for something that isn't a wear item. Yeah its a lot, but you get what you pay for.

Top up with AWE.... NO DRONE!!!! Just purely amazing sound. Still trying to get some clips. :sunglasses:

As I have stated before..... almost stock at cruising and growls when you walk on it. And no other mods to my exhaust, just the axlebacks. :like:

I have the ford performance touring axle-backs and they have no drone. Not the loudest exhaust, I daily my convertible and have no complaints what so ever.

Id say they sound pretty good, but If you looking to get noticed, borla s-types might be a better option.

Being. Prices is fine. As long as there’s no drone. That’s the main thing for sure!
