What are y'all doing for a rear facing dash camera?
I want to upgrade my front facing only dash cam to include rear facing. But I really, really, really don't want to pull the A-pillar and upper windshield plastic trim to run wiring.
I'm thinking about just getting a second single view camera and mounting it back there. I know I can get power and ground under the rear seat and mounting it shouldn't be that hard.
So, what have you done?

Iā€™m going to mount my front and rear view cams to the windshield. It wonā€™t be the best solution for top up but with top down itā€™ll do.

I was trying to come up with a design to mount the rear just above the rear seat but I havenā€™t gotten around to it. Sort of a lazy S shape (in red) to bring it over the top of the seat back. Attached to the top rail running across the car at the top of the seat back. Child like drawing from my iPad. Not to scalešŸ˜

That's exactly what I'm thinking.
I've got some ideas on running the wire without completely disassembling the windshield trim and a couple of ideas for the bracket in the back. New dashcam came yesterday so I'll get started probably Sunday. I'll post pics if it works like I hope.

That design is exactly what Iā€™ve been contemplating. My dash cam system was delivered this past week and now Iā€™m in the process of brainstorming mounting ideas for my rear cam on our convertible.

It would be great if someone could come up with something that could be 3D printed. I think the main problem is that there is not much space between the top and the seat back when down.

That seems to be the biggest challenge. My knowledge of 3D printing is limited to purchasing various smart lighting switch mounts online. Through my research it seems that 3D printed stuff generally seems a bit bulky/thick, which may not fit in the gap between the seat and top when down. My initial thought is some sort of narrow aluminum/metal bracket that is thin enough to fit in that narrow gap. Next question is how to attach it to the back of the seat? Might have to remove the seat back to see how it's constructed. Is the seat back attached to firewall type structure?

To remove the rear seat back you have to first remove the seat cushion then there are two fasteners, one on either side, that have to be removed then the seat back is lifted up to remove it. I'm going to try to mount the bracket I make to the seat back itself so it comes out with the seat back. Otherwise I think the bracket might be in the way of reinstalling the seat back.
I'll probably start working on it tomorrow.

Due to gap just need 1/8" X 2"-3" steel or alloy strip with appropriate bend angles that could easily be done in a vice (with metal protected by wood, rubber, plastic or fabric blocks or strips) or on a brake.

Drill & screw into seat back and good to go.

Thank you for this info! Please share photos of your bracket.

OK, I'm trying to do this with stuff I have on hand. This is my current idea for a bracket for the rear camera.
The pieces are standoffs for mounting drapery brackets to the wall. I intend to pop rivnit them together in the offset position. I'll paint them a flat black and probably put a strip of black foam where the bracket will touch the seat. I haven't torn the car apart yet but I'm feeling pretty hopeful this is going to work
