Sorry this happened. It seems to be an internet phenomenon for people to assume you "must have done something to piss him off." Funny thing is even if you did, it wouldn't justify what was done to you. I strongly considered a convertible Mustang. I'm glad I didn't go with it. I live in DFW. :)

You know what. I’ll take the blame off of you and put it on cities and towns that have not actively initiated a common non-emergency number to lodge or file a complaint with police. You come home and the place is burglarized what do you do? Most call 911 even if the place is empty - why - because they can’t remember any other number.

We have 311 but they made it too broad in scope. 911 has to stay for real life threatening emergencies but maybe 999 for police matters that are not on-going emergencies.
There have been several times I have called the local PD non-emergency to report something. Every time, I have been told to hang up and call 911. This was in NC and OK.

I think you did the right thing. It would be very easy for me to explode on somebody that did something like this. I'm 52 now, but 20 years ago I would not have let it go and probably would have done something I wish I didn't. Good luck finding this asshole and I wish you the best. I appreciate your service to the country.

To the people who are asking the OP what he did to provoke this guy, I would 100% believe some jagoff did this out of spite for the OP existing in a sporty convertible car. People are just pricks these days.

Something very similar happened to my friends father last month, a guy in south jersey was passing people late at night and shooting out front windshields as he'd drive by. Finally the police arrested the guy because someone turned around, chased the car down and got the tag # as well as dash cam footage.

So yes, people are assholes, they don't always need a reason to be an asshole, and OP is obviously a calmer and more collected individual than myself because I would have chased this guy down to no end and probably ran him off the road.

There a shitty people in the world, plain and simple. Guy probably said, "This guys thinks he's hot shit in his convertible mustang. What a looser, the car sucks anyways. I'm going to throw my coffee at him so he knows how stupid he is"

People vandalize shit all the time, they are unhappy for some reason whether they know it or not. And they lash out in different ways.

Not to drag this out, but I think when someone throws something at you deliberately like in this situation it very much requires police attention and I think calling 911 is appropriate. Granted big metro areas like DFW probably have their hands full, but in rural areas police would love to hunt this shithead down.

Unfortunately my car was hit while parked last week. I called 311 and the guy immediately connected me to 911. Two police officers came and spent about a half hour writing a report. If anything is damaged or any law is broken, no matter how small, you call 911. Especially if insurance is involved, they will want a police report. Maybe its different in other countries.

Now, I may be just some tree hugging liberal who hates everything my Mustang stands for (not sure what that is) but I have found this to work. On occasion, I have encountered fellow residents who felt the need to "comment" on my bumper stickers. I just smile and wave, maybe ask them if they are having a good day, it usually pisses them off. People like this want to get a reaction out of you, that's why they are doing it. Best way to get back in the moment is to not react. Now, later, if you want to let the air out of their tires or something, just make sure no one sees.
Lol. I dunno what political affiliation you are or do I care but by displaying a bumper sticker, you choose to open yourself up to the public. I think it would be you who is trying to get a reaction out of the unstables out there. Continued good luck with that...

I am a very experienced CHL holder. I spent 10 years in the Navy with the Marines as a corpsman. I have learned the consequences of hurried, reckless and or hasty decisions to bring deadly force to bear. It is fine to vent and imagine bringing that to bear but the real world seldom reacts the way you want or anticipate. It is my wife, three daughters, and two grandchildren that pop into my head when deciding how to respond to stressful situations.

My plan is to see him, identify him and then press for charges of assault and reckless endangerment. I have already started this process with filing a report and talking with law enforcement. I will then file a small claims case against him for damages to include repair cost and loss of income for the time spent arranging these repairs. These actions will have the most consequences for him and the least for me.
Army Vet here. It's amazing how the general perception about LTC gun holders in TX is we all are quick to pull and let the bullets fly into the great wide public. Carrying is for personal protection. If my life or anothers life isn't in danger then I don't show a gun...let alone have a moving vehicle gun battle amongst the soccer moms in minivans.

Even more alarming that you aren't trolling. You are comparing a shake thrown at the outside of a truck vs hitting a person with a cup full of coffee in a convertible. Apples to oranges.
Yep, the OP had assault committed against him, a valid 911 call.

Man, I am in the DFW and have a 2018 ecoboost convertible, the weather was so nice yesterday and i was driving home from work with the top down and as soon as the light turned green some construction worker dicks in a truck tried to spit at me in the car. I don't know what gets into people.
I've stopped driving up to DFW to visit my parents in McKinney, the traffic and rage up there is getting too much for me. Starting to feel more like "angry-NASCAR in Atlanta" than the old "Drive Texas Friendly." San Antonio traffic is still wild, but at least we aren't assaulting each other with guns, coffee, and spit. I feel sorry for our law enforcement officers who have to babysit these angry children on our roads every day.

YESSIRROM, I'm sorry this happened to you. I expect better behavior from Texans on our roads, but I'm glad it was coffee and not bullets. Good luck on your search for the culprit, I think I would handle things the same way you are.

He was driving a 2015? Cadillac CTS four. Badges were on the bottom of the trunk. He looked to be in his 20s. He was hell bent on getting away and I did not want to cause an accident. I figured since the 911 call had the plate on it, I could find him that way. I have a dash-cam but it got soaked and corrupted the memory card. Guy has some sort of demon guardian looking out for him. If I see him again, I will get his plate or follow to find out where he works or some such. Police said assault charges would be filed if I can identify him. Small claims court should take care of the rest.
All 911 or other calls to the police are recorded.
