So I read this thread and then I went to a car show this weekend. I for the most part agree with what is being said if you don't have the car then putting random badges or cloning other cars with badging is wrong. Then I came across a rare pretty awesome vehicle in Dearborn Michigan at the Ford PDC employee car show. It was one of six prototype GT500 mustangs from around 2008. The pictured car is about what it looked like not an exact picture. This car was saved and bought by a Ford employee with permission from the Ford family the rest where destroyed. However what the vehicle boiled down to was a standard GT (4.6L NA no mods) with a GT500 prototype body kit and interior.

I have a question for the thread is this blasphemy or does this car live in a grey area walking a line between cool and fool?:thumbdown:

definitely a grey area - technically, it's branded and labelled by the factory, even though it's a prototype. It wasn't an aftermarket re-badging of the car.

If its a prototype it's obviously acceptable. It was built and tested by Ford. As long as the owner doesn't go around saying it's a real GT500, it in fact has a much more interesting story anyway.

It's pretty cut and dried, be upfront about what your car is or is not. Going out of your way to slap cobra and GT 500 badges on a turbo 4 cylinder is laughable. Buying a "one of a kind" prototype hand built by Ford for testing is not. Would I buy it? No way, but its not the same.

I say if you want a cobra symbol or a 5.0 symbol on your car. You need to boost up your car to perform better than them and then put either the 5.0 or cobra emblem in cross-hairs or in a no smoking style sign  otherwise while it would look cool, as I also really like the cobra snake being in the grill, it's just not cool...no matter how "cool" it looks.

Agree on the SVO badges. Mustang fanatics would tip their hat to you rather than snicker behind your back if you put a cobra or coyote on it. Plenty of pride in driving an EB I'm sure. If you want to lump yourself in with the 2000-v6 guys who can't be bothered to repair rust but CAN be bothered to find a GT emblem, that's your business. If you don't give a damn what other Mustang drivers think, that is also your business. It's a sort of club, and with that badge you'll never really be in it (whether or not you care).

Though putting an SVO badge on it definitely not near as bad as a cobra emblem, I still don't get it. It's not an SVO. Why do people insist on doing this? lol. To each his own but I'll still be laughing, or at least shaking my head when I see the first SVO badged Ecoboost this fall.

I ran the "does this fit your car" thing at the bottom of the 5.0 emblem E-Bay page. This was the result:

This part is not compatible with 2015 Ford Mustang Base 2.3L 2300CC 140Cu. In. l4 GAS Turbocharged.

Says the same thing for the GT model.:

This part is not compatible with 2015 Ford Mustang GT 5.0L 4951CC 302Cu. In. V8 GAS Naturally Aspirated

Would it be silly putting the cobra or svt on the 2015 gt?

TO the OP: please dont labe l your car something it isnt. BUt having said that i like the idea of a Snail/Turbo emblem somewhere. Ive always liked the Turbo emblem from Porsche's (just like the writing). Curious to see how it would look on an ecoboost.

"Up-badging" has never been cool. Cool was either no badges or base model badges on the top model. I prefer no badges. Keep 'em guessing.

^This. I think that' sone of the things that make the tri-bar look so good. that and i like the tri-bar by itself. Modesty is the answer - don't advertise something you don't have, but don't brag about what you do have.
