Well, I know I'm not the best driver of a manual transmission, but I drove my old Jeep XJ for years with no issues. After only 3,300 miles in my new pony car, I noticed the clutch was quite noisy from the get go, thinking it was normal for a twin disc to be noisy. Especially when down shifting from say 6th to 3rd while going up a big hill to pass a tractor trailer on the highway. The higher rpm shifts definitely made that twin disc sound like a coffee can full of marbles.
However, the guy said they may make a little noise, but mine was way too loud. The tech even heard the rattle when I pulled up to the service dept, and pressed the clutch in while parking. Me being a dummy, I just thought "Oh, it's a twin disc clutch, no biggie."

Anyway, for the last few days what really made me realize something's seriously not right, was the clutch pedal really becoming less engaged to the point where it didn't feel fully engaged until the was pedal released all the way out. Basically tons of travel, and it started to grab only only about 2" from being fully released.
Also, cruising down the highway at 65mph, normally my engine rpm in 6th would be around 1,700rpm. However, I noticed intermittently for the last couple days it was more like 1,850rpm. Sometimes back to 1,700, then it would go back up to 1,850. Weird. That was my first red flag of the clutch slipping.
When I pulled into the garage the other night, I noticed an obvious burnt smell, like when you leave the emergency brake on driving down the road. Well, my emergency brake was fine of course, but it immediately told me something was up with the clutch.
I thought, maybe it could be adjusted. Some hydraulic setups have a bar adjuster on the clutch pedal. Nope, not on the 2018 Mustang. I thought also maybe the fluid was an issue. Well, from what I gather by looking, the clutch cylinder is tapped off the brake master cylinder, and both use the same main fluid reservoir on top. That was topped off, so....

Time to take it in.

Well, the guy called me back, and said they have to pull the tranny, and will let me know more tomorrow about what exactly is wrong.

UPDATE: OK, this is weird. They got my clutch out, and said that the clutch physically looked OK, but it was glazing from not being in contact as well as it should. They said there is some sort of flywheel issue, and and neds to be replaced. The cooling fins were bent and didn't look like it was engaging properly. Heck, I dunno. Anyway, what totally bums me out, is a new clutch is about 3-4 weeks out, but he put a rush on the order. Hopefully they can find one sooner. This really stinks. :crying:
