Clutch is scratchy after track day

2016 GT Perf Pack. I just drove it for the first time after an HPDE day two weeks ago, and the clutch feels a little funny.

It still seems to function properly but the motion is no longer butter smooth. I can feel it catching a bit near the top of the travel when a gear is engaging. There’s a little bit of friction that wasn’t there before. The problem does not seem to happen if I’m just sitting in neutral and pushing the clutch in and out.

That track day was a hot one. 90+ degrees. I was pushing the car pretty hard and the rear axle got the over temp warning. I didn’t notice any clutch issues that day though.

Any ideas?

Factory clutch?
2 clutch exploded on me (17pp1) when changing gears at high rpm’s
Not saying that it’s your problem but they are very weak for track duty
Went to an aftermarket and never had a problem since then

Yes factory clutch. 13K miles.

Any tips for diagnosing whether it needs replacement? Which aftermarket clutch did you buy?

Might be just glazed. Give it some time and see if goes back to normal after some city miles.
1. Do you have Rev matching or did you use heel/toe on downshifts?
2. Do you have a diff cooler?
3. Did you check the differential for oil... my buddy in a GT boiled his off after a trackday but he didn't have a diff oil cooler. It might be worth adding oil to eliminate any tranny variable.

My factory clutch exploded broke twice when changing gears at high rpm’s
Upshifting, not downshifting
My guess is that the centrifugal forces did it when the pressure plate is away from the. Clutch disk

Thanks. I’ll give it a little time.

1. Heel toe downshifting
2. No diff cooler
3. I haven’t checked the diff yet but I did order thicker 75W-140 diff oil to install (awaiting arrival).

Beside using thicker oil, wrapping the exhaust pipes on both sides of the diff with insulation will allow you to run without a cooler

Good point. I recommend that also. I did it even with a diff cooler. Never overheated at Daytona a couple of weeks ago even at 95 degrees after 8 lap session.
