Clutch bleeding procedure? FSM? Stiff shifter

The shifter in my new 200 mile GT350 is very stiff going into certain gears. The linkage itself moves freely but it feels like it is fighting the syncros from time to time almost like the clutch isn't disengaging 100%.


Can anyone help me by posting the procedure for bleeding from the factory shop manual? I want to do this to make sure there isn't air in the system.

The clutch hydraulics is a self-bleeding system. If there is air in the line it will work itself out, you need to drive the car more, it will improve. Give the car at least 500 miles, then evaluate the condition.

+1 and though most do not trust the dealer (understandably), this is why you have a warranty. If there is a problem, let Ford fix it.

The transmission is a bit "notchy" for lack of a better term. Even when I bought mine at 2700 miles used, I could pretty much feel the engagement of the syncro blocking ring on each shift just before it slid all the way into engagement with the gear. But now that I'm up to 5400 miles I don't really notice it quite as much. So I would suggest it's pretty normal and will smooth up with some use. It seems that an occasional partial engagement of first (followed by it popping out) is not too uncommon either. But I think that smooths out also and you get use to firmly shifting it into first to be sure it's all the way in.

Excellent feedback :thumbsup: Your description, including one first gear pop-out, is exactly how mines feels. I will calm down and revaluate after more miles have accumulated.

I got my first car (Mercury Capri 2000) when I graduated from high school in 1971. I have never had an automatic and, hence, have shifted a lot of gears. I have never had a smoother shifting experience than that in my Shelby and it has been that way since day one. If yours is "very stiff" I would take it to the dealer to at least start a paper trail and establish some history.

It is a great transmission if my comments sounded negative they weren't met to be - feeling the engagement action in a manual transmission is not a bad thing as long as it's shifting solidly and smoothly. It's far superior to what was in my 2012 GT. I don't know how much the GT transmission has been improved since then, but in my mind the extra cost of the GT350 is nearly worth the additional cost alone just for the improved ratios and shifting.

I didn't take your comment as negative. My point is that the TR 3160 is as flawless a transmission as I have experienced. It is hard to imagine that any shift event described as "very stiff" would not indicate a problem somewhere.
My son has a '17 GT and it is a pleasure to shift, much better than the 2012. The throw of his factory shifter is slightly shorter that of the GT350.

Mine was like that until about 800 miles. After the break in it is smooth as hell. I just did a transmission fluid change at 1600 miles. You also have to get used to the clutch and the duel spring setup on the pedal.

Have exactly the same issue with 1st gear you are describing. If I'm not careful with firmly shifting into 1st it will not be fully engaged and you let out the clutch and get that wonderful grind. Its annoying for sure...but I don't do it as often now as I am making sure it's totally engaged now before releasing the clutch. My gearbox can feel a bit notchy at times as well. :amen:
