I called their tech line 3 times today to ask this question, but they must really be busy as I was on hold for over 45 minutes total. I get it, Monday morning after a weekend of wrenching/ track time, they get bogged down with questions I am sure. Anyway, I have their breakout harness for IAT2 on my Gen5 3.o liter Whipple as I am using custom tuning. I am correct in assuming that this harness "repurposes" the IAT1 signal the MAF provides and is in actuality the IAT2 reading? Thanks for any and all responses. I appreciate the willingness to help and the wonderful knowledge base provided here.

The Whipple operating system repurposes the imrc connector to be the charge temperature. The stock OS uses the temp sensor in the maf for charge temp. Many aftermarket tuners refuse to use the Whipple OS and would rather use a stock ford OS. Therefore the iat, which has to be measured after the intercooler, has to connect to the stock iat input in the harness.

What’s your goal with an aftermarket tune?

I never was going to use the Whipple tune because I was happy with who I had used to tune my '09 GT500. When I purchased my Whipple I got the tuner kit Stage 2, and was never going to use the IMRC harness. When you don't use that harness, you have to provide IAT2 from the back of the supercharger using a separate sensor and harness, which is where the VMP breakout harness and sensor comes in. VMP doesn't have any directions on how to hook it up, but I asked around and it is supposed to be hooked in to the MAF sensor location . It's a "Y" harness from the back of the Whipple where the sensor is screwed in, then it goes inline between the harness from the car to the MAF. I believe it basically makes the car think it's getting IAT1 numbers but it's actually post intercooler sensor numbers. I called them again today and was on hold for over 20 minutes the 4th time and hung up.

You are correct. Your dash now will read post I/C IAT(2).

Yup, simply overrides and replaces the IAT signal so that it's coming from the new sensor in the back of the block. That way the computer uses it instead of the reading at the MAF (pre-boost vs post boost). Would be nice somehow to see the real IAT1 numbers as we're just left with ambient and IAT2

I guess that’s the advantage of the Whipple os, because it lets you read iat and mct. It is pretty useful.

Too bad Whipple doesn't share that data. Their tunes leave way too much on the table to justify that purchase price.
