Hi members,

Hope Friday is treating you all well. I wanted to get everyones thoughts who have installed CAI into their GT (mine will be auto), have they lived up to expectations? Would you recommend choosing a CAI from AUS given the difference between the US model?

I was looking to get a CAI that does not require a tune but provides the most benefits to the engine, airflow, lower temperature.

I did read that Blue Power has a great CAI - how has it held up?

Cheers,

Brendan

I have the steeda intake which has a removable restrictor so it run on the stock tune.

Personal I don't think it has added any additional power in stock form without a tune, but the intake noise is awesome. Just make sure you disconnect the sound tube as it becomes very boomy in the cabin.

Since you don't want a tune you're really not going to gain that much. I looked around for the best intake and the PMAS no-tune required intake will give you the best gains. I recall watching multiple before and after dyno videos. I have the tune required version.

There's about a million threads about this but generally you'll need to read 200 pages and walk away confused.
In a nutshell:
The PMAS gives good gains as a "no tune" because it uses a recalibrated MAF sensor. Basically, it tells the car that there is more airflow available and the car will seek the correct maps to capitalise.
BUT: it's an open top box. It WILL give higher IATs, particularly if you're idling at the lights.
So, at a certain point (I don't recall the exact temp), the car will then pull ignition timing.
So it ain't all roses.
The Bluepower no tune seems a good option for some.

I've had one of the first Blue Power CAIs on a car, my car is tuned though. I would recommend it, quite a few other people have gone with it. As far as I know that is one of the few Australian made CAIs.

Does it pull timing based on IATs or based on cyl head temps? I remember reading this but don't recall the exact temp either.

Oh geez. Now you have me questioning myself...
Pretty sure IAT will do it, not sure about CHT.
To an extent, I would think both.
Basically, the car is looking for ideal conditions, anything less than that, timing is pulled.
I made sure to try and do my datalogging in the morning air, cos summer days in Mildura aren't conducive to getting accurate reads. Eg. IAT = 53 = no good

Airaid CAI seems very popular in Aus , Tickford have chosen it for their power kits .

I was under the impression it was pulled when CHT goes over 210 or so and not IATs but I could be wrong :) could be both, it's been a while since I read up on it

That would probably explain why Lund are so keen to have the fans going flat out pretty much all the time then.

Timing is definitely affected by IAT's. The ECU starts pulling timing at 38 degrees Celsius and will add more timing at lower IAT'S.

I have the PMAS and intake temps get very high (up to 25 degrees above ambient) and take a long time to come down. If you are going to run an open box you really need to do some additional work to bring temps down quicker (such as opening up the grill and running some ducting like the velossa big mouth). Gibbo has a really good thread detailing some things you can do to decrease temps.
