Hi all,

I got the check engine light yesterday, driving very moderately on my way to Wegmans.

Pulling out my scanner and Torque app, I got : P0128 - Coolant Thermostat (Coolant Temperature Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature).

Thermostat on it's way out already ? under 11k miles now.

I cleared it, if it comes up again, I'm taking her to the dealer...

Anyone else had to change thermostats so early in life ?
My VW Golf has 200k miles and over 17 years now, still on the original.

Cheers

You can install a brand new thermostat and have it be bad. Occasionally there are just bad parts.

My mom had a C class back in 2008 and it went through 2 of them in 40k miles. First one at 8K miles.

I know I know .. I just don't fancy the idea of the car going to the dealer at all.

I was thinking of doing it myself, but then what is the warranty for.

I not only had the thermostat go bad, but the housing unit was to blame as well. Took 4 trips to dealer before Ford got serious about it.

I'd mention to your dealer that this is not uncommon and you recommend replacing the thermostat housing as well, to be sure.

Thanks all! For now, the light did not come back... If it does, I'll take it to Ford and mention the housing too.
