Subbed to this thread as, short of Ford doing another FPC mustang I think this is my forever car. This article and the info people are sharing is hyper important if only to help people like me realize I can't do it myself BUT ALSO what to expect to pay when this comes up and who to trust to do it.
I not only had the thermostat go bad, but the housing unit was to blame as well. Took 4 trips to dealer before Ford got serious about it.
I'd mention to your dealer that this is not uncommon and you recommend replacing the thermostat housing as well, to be sure.
12k in. H2102: last owner put a bird through the front end and sold it without replacing the AC condenser then traded it to a non-Ford dealer, as well as popping a tiny dent in the fender from inside trying to get the new PPF installed in a jiffy (only way I found the other issues).
The car...
GE tried this too. They've been cutting themselves apart for years and aren't getting anywhere. I see the same thing happening here.
They should be innovating not amputating. This news frustrates me on many levels.
I'd like to see how you're going to deal with the countour underneath where the screws pull the wing down. There's another forum thread on this and the guy said 'don't ask where I got these dogbone monuting brackets you won't get a pair'...
The last owner put a bird through the grill so hard it hit the radiator and bent the AC condenser. I was fixing an unrelated thing when the dealership found it. Luckily it was a honorable dealer that I bought it from (Porsche/Audi/BMW) and they paid for the repairs, but damn: the last owner was...
I bought a user 3200 mile GT350 for 56,800. Make sure you have an auto body shop examine the heck out of it before you buy, as well as a different Ford dealership than the one you're trying to buy from, and you'll be fine.
Bay Area owner here, and I had the same problems you did.
I recommend against the Tech Pack 16
The $5k ADM seems to be normal in CA, if you have to trade in the $5k is the slop of shipping cars to and fro in addition to tax changes and re-registrations. It's the same, more or less, but some...
I bought a Used 17 and after a month of owning it and 2 weeks in the body shop (after discovering the last owner put a bird through the grill and hastily fixed and sold) I am never buying a used car again... at least not for me
I learned a long time ago not to negotiate a deal you can't walk away from.
Keep your options open and consider all possibilities: the R is special, but think about what you really want from a car and whether there's suitable alternatives around.
If none of that works for you then you've...
Warranty is bumper to bumper... including the bumpers. Any dealership will send photos to Ford asking for permission to repair. If Ford approves, it's done for free professionally with a dealer guarantee.
I'm having a minor paint dent that caused the paint to crack (1/8" wide 'bump') fixed...
