Hey guys, was wondering your opinions on a cheap drag pack setup for my Mach 1. My buddies and I go to the track casually during the summer, and I want to hook a bit better than with PS4’s. I’d still run the 19x11 front wheel and 305/30/19 front tire on my car now. So I’m looking for what size wheel and tire for the rear also would work with that. Thank you!

The VMS wheels are pretty cheap and run a 305/45/17 Mickey Thompson Street R Radial. There is discussion that the Bias Ply is better for a stick car but with you keeping your radials up front I wouldn’t run the Bias Ply.

That’s what my buddy runs is a VMS wheel. I was also looking at Race Stars lol, which I know are very budget. Would like a 17x10.5 size wheel work? Or what would you recommend?

We’ve had that discussion a few times, he ran a Street R for awhile (ESS, Gen 2 MT-82 car) but is switching to Bias Ply this year. Are the Pilot Sport 4’s technically considered a radial up front?

Yep the race stars will work too. I don’t have experience with them but maybe some others do. I run Weld 17x10 with the 305/45/17 and 18x5 fronts with a 28 Sportsman SR. So both are radial. Both around 28 tall. Works great but mine is an auto. Yes the PS4 is a radial.

We have our Modulo and Blackhawk drag pack wheels on sale. We are way overstocked on them. $795 for all four wheels, two 17x10's and two 18x5's. If you just want the 17x10's they would be $217.46 each with the discount code. We have a thread on the sale here:

Most popular tire size for the rear would be 305/45/17 and the Mickey Thompson ET Street SS drag radial would probably be your best choice if you plan to run it on the street. The ET Street R and the bias version would be better strip only use, but can still be run on the street with caution as they will hydroplane with just light rain.

Wow that’s awesome! I would run them on the track only truthfully. If buying only the rears, I’d be okay running the 17x10’s with the 305/45/17’s if my fronts are 19x11 and 305/30/19?

@VMS Racing I also saw the rear wheels won’t fit GT350, GT500, Darkhorse, would they fit in that case on a Mach 1?

Yes, they will fit. The Mach 1 uses the PP brakes, so no issues there.

Yes, you can run the 17's in the back with the 19's in the front. Please be aware that there will be a difference in how the car handles. Drag Radials will not corner like your usual 19 inch street tire.

Do you have a link for the rear only Modulo’s?

A 17X10 will work perfectly for you. I’ve also mixed radials and bias plies before and experienced a good amount of swaying when going down the track. it wasn’t anything that was unbearable, but it was definitely a little unsettling at first. It never stopped me from making hits that day at the track though.

I’ve also run ET Street R radials and Hoosier QTPs and I think the bias plies are easier on the drivetrain than radials. I have a clutch slipper on my car and truly believe that it has helped protect my drivetrain when running radials with my MT82-D4.

Get a second pair of stock rear wheels and put drag radials on them

The 17 will hook much better than a 19. More sidewall the better. Wheels will be lighter as well and probably a little cheaper going with the 17.
