The 17 will hook much better than a 19. More sidewall the better. Wheels will be lighter as well and probably a little cheaper going with the 17.
Exactly. The guy wants to actually “hook” so the 17’s are a far better choice than 19’s.

He's NA, has a stick, and doesn't want to run a bias ply. Should be just fine with a 19" DR
Manual transmissions + drag radials equal broken parts at the drag strip. It’s a recipe for disaster plus he wasn’t asking about 19” tires.

I get what you’re saying Robvas, having run both, even with an Automatic Car the drag radial on a larger wheel just doesn’t take the hit as well. He can also grow into the MT radial if adding more power later with say a Supercharger. It’s not a bias ply so will work fine with the stockers up front. Just my humble .02

Manual + stock axles + any slick or drag radial will equal broken parts if you launch it hard enough

Plenty of guys out there cutting 1.5's on 20's with a drag radial

We have our Modulo and Blackhawk drag pack wheels on sale. We are way overstocked on them. $795 for all four wheels, two 17x10's and two 18x5's. If you just want the 17x10's they would be $217.46 each with the discount code. We have a thread on the sale here:
VMS Racing drag pack over stock sale

Most popular tire size for the rear would be 305/45/17 and the Mickey Thompson ET Street SS drag radial would probably be your best choice if you plan to run it on the street. The ET Street R and the bias version would be better strip only use, but can still be run on the street with caution as they will hydroplane with just light rain.

For the front on the 18x5 wheel you would usually use the Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/R in 28x6.00R18 with the 305/40R17 drag radials. The issue with the 315/35R17 is that is a short tire, it is only 25.6" in diameter and the 28x6.00R18 is 28" in diameter. You would need to use the Sportsman S/R in 26x6.00R18. I have had customers say that the 26x6.00 tire is a bit short and the car can end up quite low especially if it is lowered.

There’s no way I’d run a 315/35-17” tire. As posted above that’s way too short. You need a 305/45-17 like this.
Yup. That's what you'd run on a 1994-2004 Mustang.

Plus those Street Comps are garbage not worthy of the Mickey Thompson name

Yup I see that now , the 305/45 17-27.8 tall Dia. , (they don't show a 305/40R17) and the 28x6.00R18 front . Thank you , is there an end date on the 795.00 price. Oh and also would I run the 60 degree conicial seat open end lug nut ? , do you need longer wheel studs .
Going from my stock size of 315/30R19 to the 305/45R17 will increase the Diameter by 1.3 inches , what does the change my Gear Ratio to from the 3.55 , maybe like 3.32 ? I'm guessing
Again thank you

The sale price will end when we start running out of stock, but that is still a long way away. You need 60 degree conical lug nuts that can be installed with a 19mm socket, the OEM lug nut that is installed with a 22mm socket is too wide for our wheels, the socket will not go into the lug nut hole. You do not need longer wheel studs.

The 315/30R19 tire approximately 26.5" in diameter (tires of the same size and different brands may vary a bit), the M/T 305/45R17 is 27.9" in diameter. So, you have about 1.4 inches there. Accodring to this calculator your effective ratio would be 3.38:
