I've had a recurring issue on my GT where my CEL will start flashing briefly at high RPMs. It's happened 4 times in the last 3 months. Each time its happened I was aggressively passing on the free way or open road with RPMs in the 5500 to 6k range. The light with flash for around 30 seconds and go back off. It's happened in both sport mode and regular D. The last time it happened I noticed an electrical smell in the cabin.

I've had it to the dealer twice. First time they said it was a random misfire on cylinder 6 due to computer error and re flashed it. Second time they said it was a misfire again on cylinder 6 so they replaced the spark plug and did a compression test which was normal.

It was fine for another month until it happened again this week. I spoke to dealer again on Friday to make another appointment and the service rep gave me some push back and tried to tell me it's because I'm driving the car to hard and the light is a failsafe warning me of engine failure (total bullshit).

Anyway I'm trying to decide how far I want to take this and if it's a real problem. The fact that it's only happened a few times tells me it could just be bad gas (arizona gas blows). But the fact that both codes so far have shown a misfire on cylinder 6 makes me wonder if it's a real mechanical issue.

The car has 18k on it and runs great otherwise. The only mod is the h pipe. Anyone else have this problem or can offer advice?

Are you running catch cans?

Had this happen once after running in 6th gear on cruise at 95 for 40 miles or so at high load low rpm (relatively speaking, and yes tollway 130 down to seguin drag strip from Austin is 85 posted so 95 only 10 over).
The first time I dropped down to 3rd WOT merging onto I10 I think it pulled accumulated blow by oil thru intake causing a cylinder drop or heavy load on CATS and got flashing CEL.
No codes showing when I scanned after arriving at track after shutdown. Should have scanned before shutdown but mehh..

Were you running in hills lugging engine in 6th gear? Or extended periods of 6th gear prior to these events?

You most likely will need to scan before shutting down or log to catch it.

It could also be timing chain stretch or gear wear or both. Do you spend lots of tim on/off throttle at high rpm?

Hope this helps.

I don't currently have a catch can installed. But it's on my to do list.

The car is my daily driver and I generally don't beat on it or run at high RPMs unless I pass. Each time this has happened I was cruising in 6th gear then stomped the peddle to pass slower traffic. All flat roads here. No hills.

No offense but I already said it was misfiring in my post.

The car is at the dealer right now for round 3.

How's your car doing now? Any updates? My car is experiencing the exact same problem. I scanned it and it displayed P0300 random multiple misfire. Car runs and feels fine though...

I have the same problem happening to my car. If i rev past 4000 rpm i get a blinking CEL but if i let it drop under 4000 right away the CEL stops blinking after 30sec and car is fine but if i keep it over 4000rpm for a few seconds i get a solid CEL its showing a P0300 Ive taken car to dealership 3 times they claim theres no misfire everything checks out fine they did a misfire correction procedure. I got the blinking CEL again looks like im heading back to dealer for 4th time.

There is a problem with the intake manifold runner breaking and causing these codes. There is a thread about this problem.
