My car was built on Feb 15, it is March 18 and dealer still does not know when it will arrive. The plant is a 5 hour drive from dealership. So that is $40K that they are not making money on for over 30 days. Ford needs to hire a couple of accountants.

Do the math, take the amount of cars they build each day and it is a ton of money!

Thats not how this works. Thats not how any of this works. Majority of sales are done through what the dealerships get in stock, not custom ordered.

There is literally NEVER a time that they are going 30 days without making money. I totally get your point about it sitting there that long, but Ford is still selling thousands of vehicles while your car is sitting there. It is actually much less cost efficient to hurry up and the ship the cars as soon as they are done. Unless there is a large group done at the same time. They obviously aren't going to want to ship just one vehicle. So sometimes they sit until all of the slow kids are on the bus. And then the bus leaves. Right now your slow kid might be waiting for the rest of them, so the bus can leave :)

Doesn't matter if it is special order or dealer stock. Dealer isn't paying before it gets to the dealership, so order type is not relevant.

Side note, I was being sarcastic about this whole subject. Like Siperman15 said, they did no have enough cars to load the train and that took a week. Know a guy who knows a guy at the plant.

Understand your frustration, but the whole process is a supply line pipeline. It does not work just in time, and they do not change the process for custom orders. Since all cars follow the same delivery timeline they are making more money by doing it the way they are doing it (more nimble logistics and priority shipping on the transportation network that Ford does not own costs more not less). When there is a bubble in the pipeline (cars held for QA or parts supply issues) is the only time that it would have an impact because it takes time to refill the chain and "catch up".

Just wait until self driving unmanned 18 wheelers/flatbeds/trailers become a thing.. probably eliminate dealerships entirely. Amazon will allow you to order a Mustang and with a Prime membership have it delivered to your front door in 2 days Lol.

Anything to eliminate going to a dealer to purchase a car...

Hell I almost bought something on Carvana, until I realized you had to use their financing and it was like 4.99%. With my 800+ credit score (well... before buying a new Mustang) that was absolutely laughable.

That's strange. Mine was also built Feb. 15th. Mine was on the train by the 19th and at the dealership March 10th!
