I just started with the car show scene. Only 2 so far. Although the car gets lots of looks..I feel like it doesn’t stand out at a car show.
Of course the Bullitt is supposed to be having subtle/stealthy personality.
But does it feel like in order to win at car shows..you need to look “different”. I don’t know what that “different “ is for a bullitt.
I don’t like those over the top modded mustangs. Not my style.
So I am reaching out to folks who are way smarter than me with the car scene.
What can I do to get that edge at car shows while keeping it real with the Bullitt.

FYi: what I have prepared so far.
- a 18x24 poster with specs about the Bullitt + list of all customizations, displayed on a easel
- a A4 size version of this poster to give as handouts to spectators who stop by
- door prop in dark highland green
- clear acrylic hood prop; not ready completely: wife is making a bullitt w/crosshair design for the hood prop
- a bullitt spec diagram (I have it on my wall but I take it with me to the show)
- a prop JJZ 109 license plate

Nice! I don't think our rear brakes are Brembo's though.

I think you are on the right track. Not sure anyone will be interested in taking a handout, but the poster is an excellent idea. Take heart if you don't get 1st place every time. Competition in a Mustang class or even just a "late model" class can be pretty stiff because there are so many. If you get lumped in the same class with classic Mustangs you had better bring a real eye opener because the 60s models seem to always win. At least you have a semi unique model which helps a lot. Let's face it, GTs are everywhere. You also have to take into account things like: "Vote for my car and I will vote for yours" that goes on. Or "Hey there's my friend's car" (automatic vote). The best shows IMO are spectator judged shows. I've had better luck in those.

I agree that many cars are overdone. The ones that seem to win all the time are built for car shows. They have lot of what I would consider to be garish mods and often not practical for daily driving. If I slammed it and put huge wheels/tires on there I'm sure that would amp up the wow factor, but that's not my style. So much of what I have done is subtle. I'm cool with it though, the camaraderie and all the interesting car people bring me back to participate from time to time.

The fender Bullitt from badge king
Both created as one-offs

Why would you win anything for a vanilla production vehicle? All that takes is money. Sure the Bullit is a special run and all, but it really is just a prod car.

Now, if the modern production Bullit didn't exist and you then modded a normal GT to Bullit style, then you would have somehting.

I am never going to do any crazy mods :)
Car shows actually gives me a valid reason to detail and keep it clean. Also I am only focusing on local events (within 30 mile radius).
If you think those handouts are cheesy then I will skip it. 🤔

Mine is not a stock Bullitt. It has cosmetic mods.
but yes I agree with you that expecting to win anything on a pure stock vehicle is nuts. I saw few cars at the last show. A challenger, with no mods and 2 corvettes just none stock. They looked great but nothing extra than what came from the showroom.

In 2061 a bone stock 2021 GT would definitely win though!

I enter the car shows frequently. I show my '87 Tbird and have a great time meeting new folks.
As for showing the Bullitt, do it for fun and not so much to win. The judging is very subjective at best and usually the class our bullitts would be is the 2000 and up stock mustang class.
A lot of it just depends on the show, the number of classes, and who else shows up. It can be a crowded class. If you really want that plaque, find a show with a small class pool to increase your odds. if you go the non stock route, the judging gets even more subjective because the pool is wide but not deep. it all really depends on how the show is structured.
If you really want to know why you're not winning, go ask for the score tabs and enjoy the looks you get from the show organizers.

Vehicles that you can see day to day don't get as much attention as those that you don't see all the time.
The s550 mustang is a popular car and most see them alot.
A 1965 is seen less. or another older classic or very high end car.
To most show goers, a bullit is just a dark green painted mustang.
I don't expect much attention when I goto a cruise/show/even in a modern pony/muscle car. Sure you see the same model year cars at most shows, but you don't see them out and about daily, Like you do newer mustangs/chargers,camaros ,etc.
If a clean Cobra mustangII shows up at an event I not be shocke if it got more attention than my Mustang.

The only car show worthy Mustang is a Shelby.

100% this.
Few weeks ago..I was at a show and this older gentleman stopped by and I started explaining the vehicle. He was like..what's a Bullitt. He didn't even know about the movie. I cried a little on the inside.

But at the same time I feel that only folks who recognize the DHG color know what it is and say.."that's a nice looking Bullitt". A true connoisseur. :sunglasses:

The only car show worthy Mustang is a Shelby.
They are beautiful looking cars. I was all set to buy one but lost the deal because I was a day late. Then I couldn't find any brand new ones (with my specifications) in the Atlanta area at that time. Oh well..everything happen for a reason

Personally I do car shows for the social interactions with other car people. I show my 1995 Cougar, not my 5k mile California Special. I show the Cougar because no one eles has one there.
I never expect a trophy.
