Those things aside, 0-60 in 3.6 seconds and 1/4 mile in 11.4 seconds is a little disappointing. I realize it's traction limited and the 132 mph trap speed tells more of the story, but I feel like C&D should have been able to get better times. That said, my theory is they are testing in December, with cold asphalt, which KILLS traction with these summer performance tires. My 460 hp GT has spun the tires at 60 mph with half throttle on the highway before the tires are warm when it's 40F outside. Even when warm, the traction is limited on cold asphalt. I would imagine these GT500 times are due to a dreadful 60' time.
Didn't Stangmode manage a 3.3 0-60 on a random road outside of Vegas during the Ford event after a just a few attempts? These Car and Driver guys probably don't know how to drive. lol!

The trap speed tells the tale. Its fun to watch idiots fumble for a car and driver win. From those numbers. Well you may beat me at an actual drag strip. where adults race. But if I ever catch your ass, on dirty concrete. Ill destroy you to 60mph.:giggle:
You hit the nail on the head my friend. It is comical how car and driver just seems to downplay this whole thing as everyone has already mentioned. They must really hate ford. At a real dragstrip, owners are running 10.6s-10.8s, right on par with fords numbers, exactly as ford's advertised. At least we can look at it as if this is the worst this car will do, is an 11.4, "marginally" better than a ZL1, well so be it. This car is a monster, and the ZL1 and Hellcat guys are going to get a real education first hand very soon. If they thought it was bad what blown 5.0s were doing to them...

Looks like venom really does kill demons. Redeye is a demon without the race ecu. If the demon gets a race ecu and race gas then give the gt500 a tune and E85 and it will beat the demon too.

Car and Driver did test a C8/Z51 at 11.2 @ 122mph. It's surprising to me that the C8 is faster in the 1/4 mile. 0-60, yes, but I would expect a GT500 to by a sub 11 second car. It must have something to do with their test procedures/surface.

They didn’t mention anything about the temperature on this test day and they had the Cup 2 tires they were testing....on concrete. The guy driving has a jacket on in the pictures. And they’re obviously still circle jerking over the C8 mentioning it in a GT500 article when it wasn’t even there.This article is Jank.

all we need to see is the 60'. but that would mean they think the readers know anything about performance. 11.4 with a 2.2 60 vs 11. x with a sub 2.2

oh, and like we didnt already know based off sales ;p;p;p;

All of the rwd rear-engine cars launch hard because of weight distribution. That’s their advantage in the quarter. Anyway, speed phenom got 10.6 and 133 on a prepped surface in the GT500 base I think. C and D not so much, concrete and weak prep. I’m sure that’s right where ford said it would be, 3.3 s and 10.6 sec. I would be willing to bet $50 that a CFTP w base tires will get 10.5@134 since the street tires seem to be getting a better launch.

Got to agree here. It's no coincidence that the 10.6X ET noted for a GT500 was in Texas.
Cold asphalt not only kills traction with summer performance tires, it kills traction with just about any tire. I remember a February trip to the track last year or the year before and I was watching full on race cars running slicks, going for one or two passes - then loading right back up on the trailer and going home. It was simply too cold to get any kind of traction - even on a prepped surface. I witnessed a guy with a full on race car tell his wife - when she asked why he was loading up already - "The car got loose at half track. Good air ain't worth much when you can't find traction."

It's also fair to talk about the fact that Car and Driver admitted that they performed their acceleration tests - including 1/4 mile ET on a normal concrete surface -so no normal track prep like you'd get at the drag strip.

we will have at least 10.30s by -01/01/2020 and 9.x by 01/30/2020
I think the GT500 can/will run 10.3x on stock tires with a little weight reduction and hero air/da

It has already done 10.61 at 133mph in the quarter.
Those times were run in perfect weather conditions on a private track rental

10.30ET on stock tires is a lot to ask for summer weather (when most tracks.are open) and average track prep.I would think 11.30ET will be the norm for most 2020 ShelbyGt500 owners at their local tracks.

What about drag radials on aftermarket or stock wheels?
