I had a dealer tell me I can't special order a Dark Horse to my preferred spec. That the dealer just gets what it gets in terms of an allocation, and you have to go searching to find one you want. As I want one in a specific color with a manual, this proves functionally impossible.

Is the dealer pulling my leg, misinformed, or possibly just trying to move inventory? Or is this accurate?

The dealers are allocated a certain number, but usually can select colors and options, although they're sometimes limited. This dealer may have already specified and ordered all that they were allocated. I ordered a Mach 1 in 2023 near the end of their production run and was able to make limited selections. Color and luxury items, but no manual transmission and no PP for example. I'd call and inquire at other dealers to see if they still have allocations that are not yet ordered. It's certainly possible that the factory isn't allowing any dealer options, but such wasn't the case in my experience. I ultimately gave up the Mach and bought a GT/CS instead and no regrets.

Have them do the search with your specs... I see them for sale in my area and advertised. The few I see in the $70 s don t seem to be moving quickly.

Maybe channeling Henry Ford ... “A customer can have a car painted any color he wants as long as it’s black” .

This dealer wanted $10k markup for the one on the lot. But no markup on a GT. I told them I would rather special order a GT but they have to put in writing no dealer mandated accessories or markup.

Any mark-up on a Dork Horse is nuts lol, they're already ridiculously priced for what they are.
IF they didn't charge mark up, and I could get it spec the way I want, I would consider it. It (to me at least) doesn't look any more special, nor does it sound more special. I guess you get 20 more hp and a Tremec, and some stronger internals. I think I'd pay a few k for that, but not 15-20k that this dealer seems to think makes sense. Ridiculous.

As I am PROBABLY not going to ever track it, or race it, save for a couple of runs at a drag strip just to establish how fast it can go, I am happy with ordering the GT with a performance package and a manual.
