Think 99.9% of us didn't have test drives, coz there was none even built when we ordered :)

I took a test drive before placing my order to be absolutely sure it was the right choice. I had mentally placed my order during the test so the dealer didn't have to try to sell it. We both relaxed and had a little fun on wet roads. Just do it.

+1 for the test drive camp. Had to make sure the Mrs could drive it. Had a bad experience with a muscle car in the States where she couldn't reach the peddles. Wasn't splurging ÂŁ35k if she couldn't drive it.

You're a brave man letting your missus drive it!!! The seats are good, you can get incredibly far forward, so much so that my mother - who's 5ft 2, can reach the pedals...

Speaking of cancelled orders, call ford Birmingham (0121 666 6000) and ask for Louise, then ask if she has any cancelled or returned orders. When I picked mine up she mentioned she had two cancelled orders, one was a black GT, and one returned car because the buyer 'Couldn't deal with the attention' that they're trying to sell, car has like 200miles on it (As much as mine does!!!). Hope this helps!

Hold on. "couldn't deal with the attention"?!

What did they think they were buying? FFS some people are silly. How can you spend that much money on something and not know what you are getting yourself in to? SMH

Eff knows to be honest mate, all she said he was an older gentleman who loved the car, but hated the attention, returned it, got full price back, Ford now reselling at current list price and that it has near 200 miles on it. Didn't even ask about the spec or anything to be honest, I was on cloud 9 picking mine up so was in the tunnel vision mode!

But yeah, it's a thing that comes with the car, a lot of attention! Almost everyone will look, double look, etc at it.

My guess is the guy was used to driving a beamer or audi or merc, and was used to everyone brushing it off as 'just another <word> here'

things seems to be moving pretty quickly just now. I ordered start of Jan, build date confirmed as early May. Delivery expected August.

Depends on demand, and how many slots Ford EU have to build the RHD UK spec cars. But most dealers quote 9-13months (Mine quoted 13, it came in 8 months and 5 days after ordering). Some cars produced quicker in the early days - such as ecoboosts as V8s had an issue that stopped production for a couple of weeks.
Currently UK RHDs are in mass production as they're attempting to finish all MY16 orders before the end of May. Assuming then MY17s will begin producing which, at a hazardous guess, is what yours would be.

Dealers will generally 'over quote' the delivery time to give themselves both contingency, leeway and to look like they've delivered It quicker. I'm not sure what the order books look like for the MY17 cars, so it could actually be 12 months, however, could be way less, nobody really knows :headbonk:!

Also, to note, is some dealers take more deliveries, therefore can make them come up quicker from Southampton. My dealership is one of the biggest sellers (IIRC) in the country, and, they get deliveries from Southampton almost every couple of days, therefore I was able to ask (persistently annoy) my dealer once it was in Southampton to get it up asap - it came up Tuesday, after being in Southampton from Saturday. But this is usually a saving of 1-4weeks. My word of advise would be to make sure you order from a MUSTANG/VIGNALE approved dealership, we've seen some horror stories of people ordering from a ford store, who then place the order through an approved dealership, and it just adds to the wait and adds another 'blocker' in the process.

Ford stores are the approved dealers for Mustang/Vignale as I understood.

Incorrect, they will just put orders through to a verified seller, therefore the process looks like

Person > Dealership > Verified dealership, and then for the delivery, the process backwards.

On the link below, filter it to Mustang/Vignale/RS dealerships, you'll notice there's a lot fewer, and these are the verified distributors and sellers of those models, other dealerships will buy from these dealerships.
