After wanting a mustang from a young age, when it came time to buy one I specifically learned how to drive stick since everyone says its better for these cars.

Unpopular opinion but personally I just didn't like it. I found it more of a pain in the ass than anything. I guess I'm too lazy to find it enjoyable lol. Auto for me
This sounds similar to what people told me back 18 years ago when I said I wanted to buy a manual car. Almost every person was like, ya you will like it for 6 months and then get tired of it. I always told them I wouldn't or most likely would not because I enjoy driving and want one. Bought a stick shift and will do everything I can to always buy a stick shift. Some people are just lazy or just prefer to get from A to B and a stick shift is just work for them. Nothing wrong with automatics, some cars I like only come that way, but if I have an option to buy a stick over an auto I will always but the stick.

Learned to drive on a stick and only bought an auto as it is a daily driver and no desire to shift all the time (turning 49 in June). Now if it was a weekend car then no issue with having a stick.

Driving a manual isn’t a choice it’s a way of life for some same goes for my Harley there’s neutral for a reason.

My first car was a manual, and about 30% of my cars since then have been manual. My current car is an auto because I love the 10 speed. Normally I would never buy an automatic sports/muscle car. It is becoming a thing of the past though. None of my salespeople under 30 know how to drive manual

even the mechanics don't. Which was just incredible. They had to call Johnny over because he was the only who knew how. Out of 10 "guys". Pathetic.

I've driven a stick for over 50 years. I own 2 hot cars with stick shift. Sure autos are faster to 60 mph by 0.5 second. I get that, boy racer.
I have a hot diesel with an 8 spd auto. In sport mode it throws you back in the seat every shift.
But if I really want to drive.... I get behind a clutch pedal and go vrroom pause, vroom pause, vroom .... :) then do your own rev matching downshifts.
It's old school. You either get it or you don't
Enjoy the ride

I can drive stick but my wife can not. She might have been interested in learning but i was not keen on her learning on the stang. The reviews of the 10 speed auto were great and the reviews and owner reports of the MT-82 were not so good.
So that is why I went with the auto.

I take it i'm not the only one who instinctively reaches for the shifter to put it in first when coming to a stop? (and our S550 is an A10)

But then again, I grew up in a family of truck drivers so I learned how to shift the old 15 and 18 speed high/low non-syncro transmissions at a young age, talk about rev matching every...f'n...gear... shifting up and down...

I think even if you know how to drive a stick, the 10 speed is so good it makes a tough case to buy a manual.
I don't like anything my grandmother can drive aka: autos. Manuals are a drivers car.

When I was about 11 or 12 my Dad bought a MGB. He would let me shift the gears from the passenger seat. I was careful not to miss a gear fearing that would be the end of my privleges. Shifting gears was just in my blood from then on. And so were sports cars.

I ordered my GT with a stick having never driven a stick before. I had one of the best auto transmissions out there on my previous car (zf 8 speed in a BMW M235) and it was amazing, but I was tired of it doing everything so easily. Plus a stick in a Mustang GT is the dream, I couldn't skip the chance. I regret nothing, I enjoy it so much.

I always get left leg spasms trying to drive an automatic.

Haha, reminds me about my Dad when he had a 94 Ranger that he would have me shift left handed from the passenger seat when he was lighting a cigarette or something, basically teaching me to shift solely by the sound of the engine (I was 11 or 12 as well back then)
