Can anyone recommend a memory saver?

I bought a memory savor that has the 9V battery attached. I disconnected the main battery and despite having the memory savor installed, it didn't work. All memory settings were lost.

Does anyone have one that is confirmed to work with the S550/GT500?

I found this might help, what stands out is the line about protecting the + connector. Makes sense, letting that go to ground & short. The battery savers supply voltage, is lost, memory settings lost.



How Do You Change a Car Battery Without Losing Settings?

1. Make sure to turn off the car before you unplug the battery.
2. Plug the memory saver into the cigarette lighter or the OBD2 connector. You can find the OBD2 connector under the driver’s side of the dashboard on the steering column.
3. Remove the old battery. Make sure that the positive battery wire does not touch the car’s body. (Note: I usually put the positive battery connector in a plastic bag).
4. Install the new battery and attach the connectors.
5. Finally, unplug the memory saver from the car.

Your car will start up with a fresh new battery, and your clock will keep the time, your favorite radio stations, etc.

Best of all, your car’s dashboard will not become a Christmas tree of warning and fault lights.

Battery Replacement
If the vehicle battery is replaced, it is very important to perform the BMS Reset using a diagnostic scan tool. If the BMS Reset is not carried out, it holds the old battery parameters and time in service counter in memory. Additionally it tells the system the battery is in an aged state and may limit the Electrical Energy Management system functions.

Hi Earl. Sorry for the delay. I had to put out a fire or two this A.M.

Below is the memory saver I used. I attached a fresh 9V battery and plugged it into the cig lighter 12V.

Swapped from the OEM to a fully charged lithium battery. Both batteries just came off a battery tender. So the car should think that the new battery is the same as the old in the sence of energy level.

I've done this many times without issue and I am aware of the battery reset procedure. I found that is required when you are not swapping apples to apples (ie.. putting a fresh fully charged battery in place of a bettery of a different energy state).

My question/concern is that the memory saver I used did not do its job. With the new battery in, all the presets and memory was gone.

So, is there a memory saver that is known to be compatible with out cars?

I am trying to avoid the relearn. Why dump data when you don't have to? Also its a PITA when you have to reconfigure the gages, set up my mode again and deal with the idiosyncrasies of a relearn.

The power point is non-op until the start switch is pushed, thin it is only active for about 40-45 min before it gets shutdown. The only way around it is to remove the power point latching relay and install a jumper wire. This allows uninterrupted power to both the power points and it also allows charging and your memory saver to work.

The OBD port has power on at all times.

This is the one I settled on. The cord is about 10 feet. I can use another car or a seperate battery while using the adapter.

It should be arriving tomorrow. I've tested the lithium battery and all is good. I'm going to swap back to the lead acid (probably tomorrow or Tuesday) until I need a lighter weight battery again.

If it comes early enough, I'll probably swap batteries back after my first oil change.

I changed my oil today and used the above memory saver while I swapped back to my lead acid battery. It worked like it should have. Every setting was left intact.

Anyone who needs one should look at the above link, it was very good quality overall.
