A programmed fake idle to go with the fake interior engine sounds... :)
I wouldn't necessarily say it is fake. The technology (individually variably timed intake and exhaust cams) enables high-rpm breathing as per a big cam in pushrod engine but can be controlled to act like (seems like another way of saying faking) a smaller cam when idling / at low rpm for NVH, drivability, fuel economy, etc. All this tune is shows what the cams are capable of / their true nature.

I can definitely see it is unnecessary and even detrimental to have this tune, but man does it rock!

Is this doing anything for performance or purely a sound thing? I do like the sound.

The cammed idle part is only for sound, but the tuners can make a performance tune with the idle together.

How's the driveability with an automatic trans?

I don't think is available for an auto car due to the converter. That would be a hell of a jerk at idle lol.

So first you pay extra for a fancy variable timing camshaft phaser to allow efficient high rpm operation without excess valve overlap at idle, then you pay more to defeat the system so you can have excess valve overlap at idle. Seems logical...

And don't forget give up economy and drive ability!

Everyone I've met that runs these never rode around in a big cammed fox for any length of time. I'm thankful we can make power and NOT have the issues of a big can!

It appeals to me, but what you guys have said overrides that, all the negatives. I would think you could get a setup that is anywhere between stock and full cammed idle right? I'd like a little character in the idle sound without the ill effects being so strong.

Yes. You can get a custom tune written that will act like a mild cam. Drive ability at low engine speeds and torque off idle would not suffer as much.

So all the guys that complained about MPG ratings and voiding they're warranties are lining up to get this tune

Probably same ones that complain about gaining 80 lbs then add 250 lbs worth of speakers and amps.

Cool!

I would have thought too that driveability with small throttle application could be near stock too, surely the tune could revert quite quickly back to a more standard cam setup when throttle starts being applied. I guess this isn't the case because people don't only want the idle but also the off-idle characteristics as well? There could be more to it though.

we do and use the lund cam lope tune all the time.

lund has perfected this tune and is the originator of the cam lope tune.

we do it on manuals, auto's and even supercharged cars

this is our auto car

and here is our auto car during competition, the question always gets asked if you can run it everyday, and our 2014 car we ran the tune all the time, even at national events.

You mean the same ones who had no problem gaining over 400lbs-500lbs from the SN95/Fox for increased chassis stiffness and about 150(New edge)-200(Fox)hp. Yeah I still laugh at that bunch who complain about the s550 weight gain.

the cars are not even comparable. The S197 was a major jumps head in safety and performance and the S550 should be too. On the other hand My 90 vert with 6point cage and welded in subframe connectors is only 3150 lbs, and it's not uncommon to see them under 3100. . it's a small car though and stripped down to the door panels. No carpet, Kirky seats, aluminum drive shaft, tubular k member and suspension. Drag race only. No front sway bar. Trunk is empty except for NOX tanks. You could likely get an S550 in race firm down to the same weight but that may take a few years for the aftermarket to catch up.
