I'm considering getting an MT-82 Stage 3 from Calimer (once I finally get my supercharger installed that has been sitting on my desk since December!) My stock MT-82 hasn't had any major issues, but I want to be proactive. After hearing about others needing to replace their stage 2, I've been considering the stage 3. My biggest concern with the stage 3 is the whine from new gear set.

I've watched as many YouTube videos as I could find, but there are only a handful. And all the videos I found had modified exhausts, so it is hard to tell how much whine there is over the exhaust.

I have active exhaust, and in town usually leave it closed, so a loud whine might get annoying. And since my wife occasionally drives my Mustang, she won't let me do anything to it that will make obnoxious to drive. (that's why I got a centri instead of a PD - down under 3k it isn't that noticeable)

From what I've read and heard on the videos, there will be some whine. But my question is whether or not it is really obvious and hard to ignore, or if it is so faint you have to listen for it to hear it. Does anyone have the stage 3 with a stock exhaust (or active exhaust) that can either record it or attest to how much whine there is?

I have a stage 3 mt82 in my car, the whine in mine is barley noticeable. The only time it makes noise is when you are engine braking like if you rev match downshift and coast to a light. I have been roll racing with it also, its taken 1000-1200+ wheel hp pulls like a champ.

How much power are you planning to put down? My buddy had a Paxton on 3.33 pulley stock mt82 just with short throw shifter and good clutch McLeod rst (not rxt cause it’s too harsh) and never skipped a beat. He actually blew the motor instead of the transmission. Main thing with the mt82 is the clutch.

Thanks for the feedback so far. Sounds like the whine is manageable. Anyone else with similar experience?

I'm planning on a pretty mild setup with the ESS - probably only 650-700 rwhp. While I've heard many getting by on the stock MT82 without any issues, not everyone has been so lucky. My MT82 is currently making a faint rattle between 36-40 MPH (regardless of throttle/brake). Dealer replaced 1st & 2nd gear and a bearing that showed some abnormal wear on a race, but the issue still persists. Since it has less than 12k miles, I'm concerned about its longevity, so I was thinking about sending it in for the stage 3 and forget dealing with the dealer. (They had it for over 3 months and didn't fix anything!)
