CAI or Tuner?

I have done the catback SW (LMF version) from Team Beefcake.:amen: Now I can afford either a CAI or the tuner. The car is manual transmission, if that matters at all. I don't know.

Question 1: Which one should I get first?

Question 2: I run 93 octane. Is this a waste of money until I can get a tuner?

Question 3: I'm trying to figure out what CAI or tuner to get. Added input here is welcome, as I have just started looking, and I haven't done much homework on either the CAI or the tuner as of yet.:shrug:

A tuner will wake the car up quite a bit from stock form, CAI intake and tuner would have been my first mods. So my vote would be a tuner then add in the CAI when you can and have the tune adjusted.

Most CAI's can't be run without a tune, so really there's only one logical order of progression, get the tuner first

I felt the need to make it sound good first. Really happy that I did. I love the sound. If I had my way though, it would be open headers.:lol:

Tuner for sure. To me a CAI is a waste of money since the stock air box works quite well. Just like they did on the 2011-2014 cars.

Oh yeah I have heard the stock exhaust and it's pretty tame. Once I pick mine up after my deployment ends I'm going tune, catback, cai to start off with and might put on a set of headers pending on how the car feels to me. Enjoy

Both. Love my JLT sound and Livernois tune.

It's better to get both at the same time. If you get the tuner alone, you have to pay additional for the custom tune. When you get the package deal, you save $100.

I agree with the other members here that it is better to do both at the same time however I understand a budget too. What I did was buy the steeda CAI and have been running it that way until I have the spare cash to get the tune I want. Just make a plan for your mods. I think you will be happy either way you go. Remember some of these tuners offer free changes to their tunes if you buy from them.

I bought the sct tuner with canned 93 tune ($339), the k&n panel filter ($50), and an Airaid intake tube($150). A good bit less then any combo deal for now. My wife will kill me if I spend much more then that before I make the first car payment. Haha. I also broke down and bought a pedalmax ($279). I spread these purchases over a few weeks. This combo made a huge difference in the fun factor and picking up some power. You can add each one of these independently so your budget is not busted at once, the draw back is that a custom tune will undoubtedly make more power. You can always buy a custom tune later when you can afford it for $200.

Most of the tuners offer free updates don't they? I bought my tuner first and will update the tune once I eventually get the CAI.

our lund custom tune would be my first choice.

we can do it with the x4 or ngauge and n/a updates are free if you make changes and add the cai down the road.

thats what ive done so far had the car 2 weeks. jlt catchcan airraid tube and k&n filter gibson catback and intune tuner. getting tb p&p and then pulling the trigger on some headers and cmr tune. should put me at about 425 whp with auto trans. that is crazy power for bolt-ons and a tune!
