The salesman said I don’t need to run a new GT in, which slightly surprised me. I don’t disbelieve him, but I wondered what you say?

1000 miles. I broke mine is properly. Didn't put my foot down etc until I reached a 1000.

I plan on keeping mine for life. There is a section in the manual about breaking in as well. 1000 miles is what that says I believe.

Do it anyway ... what's to lose?

Look after it and it will look after you...

1000 miles. I wouldn't buy a car from someone who says it does not need to be run in, they've probably ragged it before.

My method was as follows

First 500 miles, didn’t exceed 3.5k rpm.
Didn’t do long trips at constant speed in 1 gear
Changed oil
Next 1000 miles rev limit 5k
Changed oil again at 1500

After that thrashed it when I wanted to.

Just turned 27000 miles, uses no oil and goes like stink

Sorry Enoch, English is not my first language, so I'm sure that there must be some kind of misunderstanding or do you sometimes really do long trips at constant speed in 1 gear?

Yep I did the same, really easy for the first 500, didn’t go over 2000 revs and made sure it wasn’t struggling in any gear, has a little fun after 1000 and I’m on about 1400 now

The right break in is to run it hard. I took my car racing (autocross) week after I picked it up and ran it all the way to the limiter. Doesn't any a drop of oil between changes, previous one ('15) - same thing. Not going over 2,000k rpm - with all the respect - is absolutely ridiculous.

Sorry but I’ll be giving it full beans as soon as I’ve got it and the roads are dry, no running in here lol

Of course you will get split opinions on a forum. I’d go with the handbook as it’s made by the same people who make the cars, think it gives driving tips for up to 2000 miles.

Some higher end cars have the engines run in under controlled conditions at the factory before the even put the engine in a car, so you can drive those however you’d like straight out of the showroom. Don’t think this is the case with the Mustang

I followed the break-in instructions in the manual. Basically, don't spin it too fast, or too slow for the first 1000 miles.

Thanks for the replies. I’ll be following the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Damian - common sense prevails - just take it easy to start with and dont overload the engine ...easy

BTW - you going to make it to Howden on 8th December??
