Anyone recommend a specific break-in oil for this motor?
The one that comes from the factory or amsoil 5w-50. It doesn’t need “break-in” oil.

I changed my factory oil after the 75 mile trip home from the dealership to CONVENTIONAL 5W-30 and drove it another 900 miles before changing it again to the oil still currently use, Mobil1 0W-40. I varied the engine loads tremendously during the trip home and again over the next 900 miles. Never revved past 6500 until close to the end of that period when I tapped it to 8k a couple times. But I also never let the engine stay at any one speed for any length of time.

The best thing to do during engine break in is to make sure there is lots of cylinder pressure (not piston speed). Drive normally up to 3000 RPM in 3rd or 4th, and then WOT until about 6 or 6.5k, then let it coast back down. This constant pressure/vacuum variation creates the right environment for the rings to seat.

The conventional oil helps with this by not being as "slippery" as the factory fill synthetic oil. That's not to say you can't achieve the same results with synthetics, but conventional oils are better for this purpose.

I have 23k on the clock now, and my car uses about 1/2 quart between oil changes.

i bought mine with a replaced engine and drove it 200 miles home, i basically just avoided using cruise control, varied speed and occasionally down shifted to 4th or 5th for a a few RPM and so on. around 4000+ miles on this engine now. changed oil around 1000 miles to amsoil 5w50. i daily drive it. only problem encountered was a loose oil sensor which leaked oil. fixed at dealer. no noticeable oil consumption.

So i may have done it incorrectly.....i have 214 miles on the car now but its snowing. I always let it idle and warm up before driving. What do you guys recommend going forward to properly break it in? I have never gone higher than 6500rpm a few times.....and then a z06 tried racing me but i shift at 6500. After i finish driving i let it idle for 5 min.

i plan on taking it in (or may do it myself) at 500 miles for an oil change then 1,000. I have the drivers and passenger jlt 3.o Catch cans

Just vary the speeds and gears and don't keep it at the same rpm for long periods. Give it a couple of pulls to the redline. Your car will be fine.

I don't know how many more times I'm going to say it.

I autocrossed my '16 car at 200 miles. HARD. Did something like 15 runs that one day. 20,000 miles, hundreds of autocross runs, and several track days later I burn minimal oil, no weird valvetrain noises, and an engine that's happy as a clam.

Just just enjoy the car and have fun

I would try to avoid idling. IMO it's the worst thing you can do for a new engine.
