Investigating a slight metal tick sound while under very light braking conditions after a bunch of mod installs, including brake pads/rotors new rear caliper. This is the rear of the brake pad rear driver side. Note the notch appears to have been partially sheared off. The passenger side does not have this appearance. Stock pads also have this nub but it looks normal.

I'm assuming the groves on the Piston used for ratcheting the Piston back into place caused this but the Piston itself does not have any damage/scoring as far as I can tell. Never encountered this before.

I wouldnt be surprised if it just failed and popped off. My aftermarket pads didnt come with any nubs, so I dont think thats going to cause any noises.

I had a rear hub go out right after I installed a bunch of suspension components, which had me really questioning where the noise came from, so I feel for you chasing down a noise like that. My hub would make a ping noise on light accel or decel at lowish speeds. In the end I couldnt prove it was the hub until I took the plunge and replaced it (which immediately fixed the noise)

Well, I just switched the damaged pad to the outside and the outside undamaged pad that still had a good tab to the inside. I'll see what happens. Doing some other work on the car so I won't know for a day or two if it solved the noise. Here is a pic of the Piston. Doesn't have any marks on it.
