Hey all,

Got my tuner the other day (SCT X4) and I just used the preloaded tune that it came with for the v6 after updating. I was able to change my RPM limit in neutral to 5100 RPMS, but I found if you go into neutral, hit the gas a little and then into drive, you can bounce on the limiter.
I switch back into neutral before the RPMS drop too low to shift into drive, but I'm not an expert with this, so please let me know if this is bad for my car because it sounds amazing and I don't want to stop doing it.

Here's the video I took

Let me know what you think.

Sounds like you're auto. If so, please don't go from N to D with RPMs up...not good for your trans at all.

Sounds like your describing neutral drops, which are terrible on your transmission. Though your video doesn't look like your doing neutral drops, if you were, you'd be doing a burnout.

Also, what exactly sounds amazing about hitting the rev limiter? Reminds me of the year 2000, and terrible rice rockets pretending to think they can race.

I'm not trying to drop from neutral to drive at high RPMs, infact, the computer won't let me. It waits until it's down to idle RPM, and then you can feel a gear change. What's so amazing about it is you can't just do it in neutral. It's very strange because even the bypass from the tuner won't let me hit where it said it would (5100 RPM limit) it just walls at 4K. I know dropping from high RPMs in neutral to drive is bad, but that's not what it's doing, it's like putting it into drive bypasses the computer set rev limit on the auto. Plus IMO, the bouncing sounds better than hitting a wall at 4K.

I get what you're saying but shifting into drive from neutral when I'm at high RPMs won't actually move the car at all. I can't move the wheels until the RPMs settle back down to idle RPMs.

Do you assume this to be bad on the tranny? I'm really torn on whether it's doing anything or not, considering it won't do what a regular car would do when you dropped it from neutral to drive.

OK, so your revving it in neutral, then putting it in drive, (which is not actually engaging the transmission due to a computer lockout of sorts) which is tricking the computer into allowing a rev to 5100 RPM?

I'm trying to understand what your describing. If what I wrote above is correct and the computer is smart enough to prevent neutral drops, then it doesn't sound like your doing anymore harm then us manual drivers revving in neutral.

That's correct, it's very strange. I can actually post a video about it tomorrow, but yes, dropping into drive is basically allowing me to hit my new RPM limiter without actually popping into gear or making the car move until the RPMs drop down all the way again.

Sounds like nothing mechanical is being stressed, except the engine. So it seems like its as safe as any engine revving to 5100 rpm in neutral.

If you havent been already, I'd advise you hold your brake pedal and apply your e-brake when you do this. It could be tragic if your computer ever fails to do its job and good old fashioned mechanical enginuity introduces your car to a situation you don't want to be in.

I've been doing that just in case haha. But I've been researching and apparently a lot of new autos don't let you neutral drop. Apparently the computers are so good at preventing damage, that if you went from drive in motion, to reverse, it puts the car in neutral until you stop completely, in order to prevent damage.

Got 3 Questions

1. What's the v6 rev limit (during neutral) Stock?
2. Why did they limit the v6 compared to the gt?
3. What is the GT rev Limit?

I have an exhaust on, I bet it would sound better if the revs would go higher. (Obviously right lol)
