Blown motor last night

They shouldn't of been pulling any motor. I'm sure there will be an inspection cost. But realistically, you'd be better of going aftermarket given your mods and plans for the future.

I have not broke my factory engine, but took it out willingly. I had started on an engine early in the year thinking one day your situation would be me, but id have a spare, the race engine is in my car now, and the stock one is at Essliners in CA getting built up.



Problem is that the dealer has you by the nuts now, they will most likely charge you for the engine removal and inspection. Id be on the hunt for a race engine that can be shipped to the dealer for them to install, and ask them if the car can sit in the back lot till you find one. ( that's if you wanna keep the car ) if your not gonna keep the car, find the cheapest way out !!

This is exactly what I am working towards right now. Trying to iron out the details right now. Currently talking to livernoise so see what we can get worked out.

On top of that price, I just had another $1000 tacked on due to the fact that they are unable to use my old engine to cover the core charge. So as of right now I'm looking at $7800 before tax which seems absolutely ridiculous when I can buy and new short block for a fraction of that price.

There is a great deal on a complete 2016 engine on Craigslist Salem ,Oregon with only a few thousand miles on the engine.Just saying.

Saw one on e-bay with 5k miles from a wrecked car for $2500 + freight shipping. That's not bad at all, but no warranty. Can't beat that!

That's where I got my loaded 3.73 GT diff with a Torsen for $650. Cost $1900 new for a loaded GT PP diff.

Just an update on the car:

So I just received a call from my local for dealership where I had it towed. It will not be covered under warranty (as expected) but it was worth a shot.:shrug:

Now it is time to decide what to do with the car. Of course Ford threw in their quote of $7,000 to order a new crate motor and have it installed. Which is a huge chunk of money to get the exact same limitations what I had in the first place. But of course it will be the quickest way as they said the car would be ready to go next week. On top of that the new motor comes 3 year compete coverage.

So this brings me to my next section of though. IF (and I say if strongly because there is a strong possibility of this happening) there is no damage to the heads or surrounding parts would I be able to get away with just a short block and continue to use my old head, turbo, intake manifold, and so on....? I've seen that Livernois's street block and upgraded rods is $4,000, that still leaves me 3,000 to get the old components swapped to the new motor.

I haven't completely made up my mind as to which route I should take, but I am weighing my options and need to make up my mind pretty soon.

Any further insight and prior experience with this topic is greatly appreciated.

If you plan to stay modded or take modding further, just get a short block from Livernois. There's zero point in sticking another stock block back in it. Since you have to replace it, beef it up to take whatever you're gonna throw at it. I mean, you're spending the money, so take some time and do it right this first time so this doesn't happen again.

Is yours an early 15? If so I am surprised they are not covering it. BUT i will say it really has a lot to do with the dealer and how hard they actually push. I had the same thing happen, first dealer refused to even look at the car and said Ford would not cover it before even hearing I had a tune. The second dealer knew it was tuned, and worked hard to get it covered which Ford did. So it really seems to have more to do with the dealer than Ford themselves.

Sorry to hear that it won't be covered, but I would go 3rd party with an updated block at this point. Also Chances are some other items were damaged. I ended up needing a new turbo and a bunch of other parts as metal pieces ended up in many parts of the overall engine system.

How did they figure out you were tuned? Did you tell them?

Even if you didnt tell them that you are tuned, if they look at the number of key cycles since a ECU reflash they can easily tell that way. A stock ECU has thousands of cycles, and when you flash the ECU for the tune that resets that count, so it would have a significantly lower number compared to a stock car.

Well, key cycle can't have 10 starts w/ 10k miles so that is one way they can tell. That's a hell of a road trip!
