While yes that visualization shows limiting your blind spot almost entirely it doesn't eliminate the blind spot caused by the car behind you. I do use my mirrors more traditionally and even after seeing this image, I would rather keep them that way as it allows me to see further down the lane I might want to move into. Although this representation might be a little exaggerated, i'm not sure but I've been in plenty of situations where the car behind me blocks my view out of my rear view and the side view allows me to see them. Especially speeders, it takes much less effort to just turn your head for the standard blind spot.

However you with the van I can see this being much more useful. If there is no one behind you then yes you don't really have one.

3 mirrors in a car, not 2. If you adj. them as described in fionic's post you don't have to move and you won't have any blind spots.
this i know, my point was more towards your view in the side view.

Even with a hypothesis of a semi-truck riding my ass and no side windows to give you the most ideal situation, my side mirrors can see farther down the lanes on each side of me with my mirrors adjusted as pictured and my rearview mirror shows me the semi-truck on me and my side mirrors can see what is behind the semi. I see no reason or situation ever to not have your mirrors positioned as fionic posted, to see everything.

Luckily for you, there are 5 mirrors on the car.

what are you talking about? there's a wrong way and a right way. What I posted in the right way. Why do you need to see behind the car behind you? That situation is VERY strange in normal driving. Normally, there aren't cars so close to your car that you can't see out your rear window.

Yeah, i don't understand what he's talking about.

kgrgunman, here's a nice visualization from c&d.

Both of those adjustments are wrong, it should be in between the two, but number 2 is closer to how you should adjust the mirrors

Figure 2 shows to much of your car, figure 1 mirrors are aimed to far away from car, not behind it at all. Yes it shows what's in your blind spot, but nothing else

You want to see a little bit of your car, in your mirrors, but less than figure 2. If adjusted in between you will be able to see behind you, and maybe see a little bit of your blind spot

I've driven over 2 million miles, your primary side mirrors should never be aimed at the blind spot. No straight glass mirror can ever see a blind spot, There not designed to see a blind spot. That's what convex, auxiliary, or blind spot mirrors are for

The blind spot mirrors on my 2011 are ok, but should be on the bottom corner, not the top. Look at any tractor trailer, there convex mirrors are always below the main mirror

I have my mirrors the same as the picture you posted, I've never had any problems with it or had anything I couldn't see.

My statement was in regards to what Divine had posted:

I think I know what OP is referring to! It's not really a blind spot per say...

It's just really piss poor visibility. I don't know about the 2015 Mustang yet but I did test drive a 2014 and the rear visibility wasn't to bad.

I think the 15 will be even better because the rear end has dropped almost 3" which should improve the line of sight over the truck deck lid.

I test drove the Camaro before I bought my 09 Challenger and IMO the entire car had very poor visibility. The back hips and truck were really high. Combined with the chopped roof, the side windows were small vertically and the view looking out past the A pillars was really bad.

I'm familiar with the mirror adjustment technique and it does work very well. I have used those bulls eye mirrors on my trucks, but I'll be dammed if I'm putting those on my Hotrod.

My work vehicle is a 2014 Ford Escape and the mirrors have those built in...(dare I say it! Blind spot mirrors) and I really like them. I don't think it would be to bad if the Mustang had those.

Yesterday I sat in the 2015 for 20 minutes, ten feet from the trainer listening to his class. The whole time I am imagining myself moving down the road. I adjusted everything I could, seats, steering wheel, mirrors, trying to find that sweet spot for me. Drivers position, field of view, sight lines were all excellent and all felt very comfortable. By comparison, the 2014 Camaro felt like I was in a bunker looking out of gun turrets.

It's just trying to show you the basics of the five mirrors. Lets not be petty and nitpick a picture that is 100% correct....

One thing nobody seems to be mentioning after they see the 15' Mustang in person is the blind spot. I ask because I was this close to buying a Camaro, but there was a gigantic blind spot over my right shoulder. So I guess what I'm asking is just how bad is the blind spot? My car is already ordered so it won't be a dealbreaker but I'm hoping it isn't worse than a Camaro.
To actually answer your question: based on my 2011, the blind spots are WAY decreased on the Mustang vs. the Camaro, and the built-in wide angle mirrors render them non-existent.

I'm seriously pissed that my 401a package means the wide angle mirrors are deleted, since I use those all the time -- especially when pulling out of a parallel parking spot to see if there's a truck barelling up the street out of my view. I'm definitely going to get some of those aftermarket.

Hahahahahahahaha!

Oh, non-city drivers are a hoot.

So, when four lanes of traffic converge into one lane of traffic because of construction, and EVERYBODY is trying to find the tiniest eensiest little bitty bit of space between two cars next to them to move over, yes, you need to know what cars behind the car behind you are doing, to see if they're trying to jam into a break in traffic that you've already planned to use yourself.

Which '15 models come with the blind spot mirrors? Very few of the pre production cars have those.

All of them except cars with the BLIS / Shaker audio have integrated blind spot mirrors.

This topic derailed quickly. I'm not sure if the OP was concerned about blindspots or overall visibility, but I'm concerned about the latter. When I had my old regular cab pickup, I felt like I was driving around in a lighthouse, there was nothing I couldn't see. When I drive around in my buddy's 2014 Camaro I feel like I'm driving around in a tank looking out of a periscope. Safety concerns and what's right/what's wrong arguments aside, I want to be able to see my surroundings with my own eyes, not just the miniature side mirrors.
