Im a bit of a toy addict and despite them taking up a lot of garage space the missus has agreed I can buy a daily driver and keep the kms off the Stang. It will also let me bolt on a few more bits than I would if it were a DD. Pretty happy about that. Putting a ton of kms on my car was my biggest concern. Now to find a cheap daily that isn't too boring!

Not sure at the moment. It won't be a lot. It'll need to be able tow a small boat or JetSki and probably lug the kids around. Maybe a Subaru Forester GT or something.

Im in a similar situation. Im on the road most of the week, didnt want to put 30,000KM a year on the Mustang both from the KMs point of view and also from a fuel usage angle.
Ended up buying a VW Polo as my daily. Averaging 4.5L/100KM. Will be a bit different when the Mustang arrives.

I plan on the Mustang being a semi-daily driver, i.e., might drive it to work once or twice a week. I have a covered parking spot that reasonably well protected from clowns who can't park. If I get in early enough (which I usually do), there is a great spot where nobody can park directly next to you, or behind.

I sold my Ranger about 4 months ago and bought the missus a Fortuner because we would need a suitable family car. ( Fortuner is awesome btw. A lot better than our preceding Prado). I got a shitbox Conmodore Wagon to drive until the stang arrives but I'll turf that out and get somethings. Little more suitable for the next 4 years. I'm probably going to put 20,000 a year on whatever I buy and try and keep the stang to 10,000 a year

Yes. I can handle driving a tishbox if I know I have something decent in the garage. My previous daily was a Golf GTI with 220KW/450NM, so the Polo's 66KW/160NM is a bit painful, but the torque is available just off idle so its easy to drive.

I have a mini cooper s JCW, which will do none of the things you want but it is fun and great on fuel. I am not sure if I need to keep it as my daily but if not it will go under a car cover and be a great future project.

I've never been one to try and keep km off a vehicle - I'd rather be out there and using it. It seems like false economy to me to buy another car with all of the costs it entails (depreciation, fuel, rego, insurance, possibly interest) just to reduce the depreciation costs of another vehicle. I have a 160km round trip to work on country roads and I'll be enjoying my GT every minute of that commute.

I thought my 84km round trip was a long one each day. The climb up macs reef and smiths gap will be fun :-)

I'm sure other factors will come into our decisions too. When I lived in Perth I was getting hammered with the cost of fuel to fill up my Jeep with its 4.0 engine so I convinced the missus to let me buy a motorbike. I never did the sums because I loved riding the bike and didn't want it to come out the wrong way but when we moved back east I bought my ute for the same reason and even converted it to LPG. The conversion easily paid for itself and the 8 foot tray has been immensely useful but I still don't know if I saved any money. The Jeep continued to depreciate regardless and I'd be lucky to get 5 grand for her now, although I've no plans to ever sell her.

End of the day, do what makes you happy.

I completely agree, which is why I went for the Ecoboost. It's almost as fun to drive as the GT (possibly better in some cases) and is quite a bit cheaper to run. There are other reasons too, but I've found it's very unwise to mention them in the company of V8 aficionados. addle:

Of course if you need that V8 growl, then only the GT will satisfy. ;)
