Let's say the Mustang does 50L/100ks = 0.5L per Km.
Let's say petrol is $2 per L, that means $1 per Km.

$20k per year is the fuel cost when we're at Mad Max Apocalypse fuel prices and the Mustang's consumption is WOT 100% OF THE TIME WITH A F..KING 3L SUPERCHARGER!!
i.e. you'll NEVER spend $20k/year on fuel.

But let's work with that.

Now, you have registration of the new car - here in Sydney, that's $1k.
Then you have insurance for the new car - that's $1k.
Then you have to buy petrol for the new car - let's say its cheap, and its only $3k, compared to the $20k for the Mustang, so now we're down to $15k per year to drive the Mustang.

Now let's say you buy a shitbox second hand car that only cost you $15k - best case you break even after 1 year. Worst case, the shitbox breaks down and costs you a whole bunch in spare parts and it takes you two years to break even... and for two years you didn't drive your Mustang as much as you could have.

Or, more likely, the Mustang actually costs less than $10k/year in petrol, and the difference in ownership costs takes you about 5-10 years to break even.

So, I can drive a shitbox for 10 years, or I can drive a Mustang every fricken day for the same price.

Gee, doesn't anyone think a Mustang will last very long.... Besides, when I see a cool car, its still cool if its got 16,000km on it or 160,000km on it, why keep k's off it.... Life really is to short to worry about stuff like that.... just check out some of the milages some XY GT's have on them, they all worth a fortune!

Why the f..k am I driving a PoS?

Keep in mind Daily Driving a vehicle has many different issues that aren't encountered with a weekend toy.

The 'exposure' to other motorists itself is enough to make someone use a shitbox during the week and the toy on the weekends. Sometimes it's not the kilometres that matter but the peace of mind!

Having daily driven my 86, there's been a number of little heartbreakers - dents, scratches, close calls etc

I know it's just an 86, but it's still special to me, and it's been hard enough to daily something like this, compared to what a $62K hollywood movie star is going to be like.

I'll be daily driving the Stang for sure, but second new car in, i'm just prepared for a bit more heartbreak than you would with a weekend toy. Even little things:
A) daily = always dirty, more frequent washing required (will be getting paint protection)
B) parking at the shops is a nightmare if you want to keep the sides relatively dent free (these will happen no matter what you do)
C) parking in the city when heading out will be interesting, at least the 86 is small. I will not be multi-storey garaging the mustang, them kerbs scare me and i've no sense of corner extents in the stang
D) Daily driving (7 days), the risk of accident is 71.4% greater than 2 days of the week only because maths.

My daily drive is a business asset so its a tax write off. Lets face it, the Mustang isnt a C Class Mercedes. I dont want to spend hours every day in it, when im simply trying to get from client to client. The Mustang makes no sense as a business vehicle. Thats my situation anyway.

There are heapse of valid reasons for having another car. Im using a ford focus for all the running around and parking in crappy places, but as far as kms go.... Ill put as many as i can on the stang. Its not like its going to be a collectors vehicle in 50 yrs

a) I'll accept more dirty on a DD than I would on a weekend toy - like i said, you learn to live with it and wash when you can.
b) I'll only have one car when the mustang turns up so i'm gonna be hollywood fabulous even when heading to woolies

Seriously though there were so many things I wasn't aware of when DD-ing a car which I actually wanted to keep pretty. Sometimes I wish I drove a shitbox kia and didn't care, but I do and you make enough adjustments to get used to it.

It gets a bit much when you notice yourself asking your ladyfriend to put the bag she's wearing into the boot to avoid the accidental swing n scratch ahaha

Well then I can use my car as a daily driver my round trip to work is only 50 k/m and in summer time I use my Harley to go to work but the question is I have got RED Rocket as well 2007 Hyundai accent with only 78k km on the clock which I was gonna keep as daily driver. On the getting dents as a daily driver or at least frequent driver, I have an old Celica which I had resprayed and sort of restored. I select parking spots with care to avoid the old doors in the side trick or idiots backing into you. It was painted about 10 years ago (or more?) and the only dent is a slight depression (you can't really see it unless you look) over the front driver's wheel arch where I pressed down too hard to see how how the suspension was holding up - face palm effort at its finest (I didn't think I was that strong). Yes, it's sometimes inconvenient and my wife (who calls that car the "red slut" as she thinks I like it more than her - what horrible slurs will she direct at the GT?) used to get annoyed at my driving around in circles to find good parking spots, or parking in a back street on some occasions, but I'm okay with that. Most times you can protect the car simply by only exposing one side, if you have to, and keeping to one side as much as possible, and, no, no wheel rash has resulted. And, yes, I have OCD.
