If I add an amp to power an add-on sub amp what is the best power connection other than connecting directly to the battery? If fuse box is the answer which # do I tap into?

Depends on the power draw of the amplifier in question.
If it's more than 150W total i would always take power from the battery.

I think I used the #2 on passenger side fuses (Power windows).. it was the only one that would actually power off when the car was off.

Edit: I was assuming you were asking for the remote wire... that is what I am talking about. Sorry if I am wrong.

Just out of sheer curiosity, what amp are you installing? I would never use the fuse block to power anything audio related but that doesn’t mean it can’t be done. Biggest issue is how do you plan to tap that fuse? I assume at a minimum the amp requires an 8 gauge power wire which is much larger than any fuse taps I’ve ever seen will accept.

I was considering an Alpine MRV-500. A small but robust mono amp. I haven't bought anything yet.

When I had a sub/amp in the car, I had it powered via below. Worked perfectly fine. Rockford Fosgate 500W amp

I'll hook mine up tomorrow just like that! Thanks.

What exactly does it do for power to the amp: off with ignition off, delay or....?

You’ll still need a remote power wire unless your amp has a signal-on setting or something similar.

mrv500 does not have signal sensing as far as im aware. I have had a few of them. I always used remote turn on wire. if it does, I never tried to use it.

edit I guess it does have sensing, never knew that. always ran a turn on wire myself

What number fuse do you suggest to connect the remote power wire?

You can use the fuse that controls the windows up and down, whichever one happens to be for your model year. The owner's manual will tell you which it is. I hesitate to say the fuse number because there are differences between some of the model years.

Figuring out how to power up that add-on amp for your sub can be a real puzzle. I feel you. So, tapping into the fuse box could be the way to go, but it's like playing a game of fuse roulette, trying to find the right one. You gotta make sure it's got enough oomph without blowing your whole electrical system, ya know? As for which fuse to pick, it's like searching for buried treasure in a sea of wires and circuits. You might wanna look for one tied to the accessories or audio system. Oh, and speaking of power amps, I stumbled upon the xiegu xpa125b amplifier wholesale the other day. They might have some good car accessories available as well.
