So living in California we have 100 degree summers and as of lately roughly 40 degree rain for the past few months off and on.

Looking to buy my first set of after market rims and tires for my 20 GT and wanted to see what tires you guys suggest.

I daily my car that's why I need a tire that's good for spirited driving and at the same time not have to clench my cheeks on the hour drive home in the rain. (If you know, you know).

Looking at the LMR sve350/mrr m350 rims but not set and stone on those yet. But definitely 19" since I love the stance on the gt350s with whatever tires those are typically running. So as for tire size on stock suspension I'm clue less but figured I'll figure out sizes once I have a few tire options to choose from.

Hello there, It's Kj from Need4Speed Motorsports. I have read your post and wanted to share a bit of insight on "Wheels-n-Tires". I too live in California and one thing that I thoroughly enjoy is being able to have the driving conditions that we do. I love the high temps for the tires' sake. It makes "Spirited Driving" pretty fun. The only downside about the temperature is that I'm boosted which gets those engine temps sky high. As far as wheels, that's something that is a personal preference. There are many aftermarket wheels to choose from and the styles are endless. The biggest difference between wheels and owners is the fitment, there are those that go for performance or those that go for style. And there are some wheels that offer one or the other, and very few that offer both. And to be able to achieve both at an affordable price is very rare. So as a car guy, you're always trying to find that balance. Now when it comes to tires, There are many options, especially regarding the performance aspect. But, in order to get something, you must be willing to give as well. We(Californians) have the option of being able to select a "Summer Tire" and roll with that all year round. And this makes tire shopping fairly easy unlike other parts of our nation that could be inclined to choose an "All Season" tire. I have paid close attention to many "Car Enthusiasts" and there are many factors that they consider when purchasing a tire. One was the style of a tire, and I'm not just talking about whether it's a track tire, all season, and so on. I am literally talking about "Style". It's appearance. The tread is always something that drivers consider. The ribs of a tire. Nitto Focused on this with the NT555 G2(Ultra High-Performance Tire), giving it an additional line of ribs, "Twin Center Ribs" as they call them, was an attempt to improve straight-line tracking and steering response. The Japanese tire maker increased its grip and traction, but with all of the improvements, it is not a "Track Tire". It excels in many areas making it a favorite for many. Take the Michelin Pilot Sport 4s for example, it does more and you'll pay more. Just like the Nitto NT555 G2, this tire is also ranked in the category of a (UHPT). The Michelin Pilot Sport 4s provides performance due to its optimized tread footprint which grips the road in all situations, making this a safer tire on all surfaces, even the most extreme. This tire was tested in 6 categories and received high marks, mid 80's and above out of 100%. Testing the MPS4s pitted them against the likes of 72 other Summer Max Performance Tires. It ranked 10th. The French-made tire company beat out the Bridgestone Potenza Sport in 5 out of 6 categories. In an independent comparison, while it might look like the Sport 4s is better, based on the number of wins, Tires can be complicated. I could go on about tires and feed you the results, but I'll spare you.

Thanks for the info ! That was honestly quite helpful. Based on alot of reviews I've seen the Nittos are very visually appealing but I've heard they don't last that long compared to others and aren't the top choice when it comes to driving in the rain. I'll definitely look into the pilot sports however.

I daily drive my GT as well, and I just broke in a new set of Continental Extreme Contact Sport 02s. They still felt great in the rain last week in LA. Definitely looking forward to see how they perform on the summer canyon drives.

I drive mine year round and have Continental Extreme Contact Sport that are on the car from early/mid April through early November. So I see my fair share of cooler, rainy days with them and they do just fine. Gotta take it easy in the colder rain until they warm up a bit but you’re going to have that issue no matter what summer tire you choose. I love my Conti’s but can’t go wrong with the Michelin PS4S either.

The best tire for California are the ones leaving the state. That’s where mine are going.

Thanks everyone your replies were helpful. Debating on the s350 bundle from lmr for around 2600$ since they'll come ready to throw on with tpms. Or do you think I would get just as good of a deal buying everything separate so I can widen my options in terms of tires ?
