Best Tires for 19x8.5 ?

Hi all, I'm on the black accent pkg 19x8.5 wheels (255/40/19) and am planning ahead before these stock Pirelli's give out.
2 questions,
The Michelin PS4S is my first choice, but getting these in 255/40/19 will take months when it comes time to swap out.
What are some more available summer tires that are just as good or close as good to the Michelins? I'm not on a budget and want the grippiest tires.

2nd question is.. Are the 255/40/19 tires the most optimal for this wheel size?
I'm on stock ride height and was wondering if I could fill the wheel wells more with a taller tire, but obviously if that's going to negatively affect the performance it's not worth doing for the appearance.

It's complicated....

Assuming you want to stay close to the stock 27 inch tire height....

The 255/40/19 is approx. 27 inches tall and the approved wheel width for that tire is 8.5 to 10 inches.

Even if you go up to a 265/40/19 the approved wheel widths go up to 9 to 10.5 inches.

Based on this, if you want to stay within the approved wheel width for safety and stick close to the 27 inch tire height, the 255/40/19 in the widest you can run on an 8.5 inch wide wheel.

If you are OK with a 28 inch tall tire then a 255/45/19 will work on a 8.5 inch wide wheel, but that is a tall tire for a Mustang.

Now, if you want a narrower AND taller tire you can step down to a 235/45/19 (27.3 inches tall) or a 245/45/19 (27.7 inches tall) and those would both work with an 8.5 inch wide wheel, but personally I think you are going backwards opting for a narrower tire just to get more height.

What you need to do is increase the wheel width to at least a 9, but preferably a 9.5 or 10 inch wide wheel to have options for the best of both worlds. Unfortunately that is quite an expense over just new tires.

On a stock 8.5" wheel stick with the OEM tire size. A 8.5" wheel is the minimum for a 255 width tire, it really should be a 9" wide wheel.

Also, if you don't want to wait for the PS4S, the Conti SportContact Extreme are right up there with the Mich. I have had both and to be frank I would go back to the Conis in my sizes but the Contis don't make a 305/35/19.

I think the stock 255/40/19s looked a little stretched on my 8.5" wide wheels. I smoked the rears off and have been running a set of 275/40/19s on the rear and they look a little big so next set up will be 265/40/19s (MICHELIN PILOT SPORT ALL SEASON 4) all the way around so I can rotate all 4 again. I'll see if I still have the pics and update. And I am running 1" wheel spacers all the way around. You said you want the grippiest tires, then look for the treadwear rating number the lower the better. Drag radials will usually be a 100 or lower, the Michelins I'm getting are a 540 those aren't as grippy but will last longer.

That set-up actually looks a bit pokey in the rear to me and probably isn't optimal for performance.

Stick with the 255/40 19s - and check out Generals: I know they are cheap, but they last and they only weigh 25# in that size.
