Yes, it came with SS, which they said is a thicker layer between glass panels.

Yeah, GO OEM or, like others have said, its really sketchy. I have USAA and on my policy you can specify OEM parts only. it cost like $3 more per month, and that includes $800 OEM windshields. Worth a call with whatever insurance co you have. USAA actually told me the quality between OEM and someone like Safelight is night and day. My 2cents

I must be deaf and blind...I just had to replace the WS on my 2018 GT and I got the aftermarket glass at safelite, I don't see or hear a thing different than the OEM. 276.00 out the door. Too many rocks on the road down here in South LA to be buying 5-800 windshields every couple years...YMMV I guess...

OEM, not "OEM equivalent" all the way. 99% of "OEM equivalent" glass is pure garbage. My insurance company's policy is if the car is less than 2 years old, you get OEM parts. Anything older you get OEM equivalent. Luckily my 17 squeaked under the line, but I'd have paid the difference out of pocket in a heartbeat.

Something like a side window on a 5+ year old daily driver or beater, who cares? But the windshield is your "interface" with the road. It needs to be crystal-clear and not leak. Plus, the Ford OEM has the clear sound absorbing material in between the layers and the Ford logo and the cool dots sunscreen band thing across the top.

Question for those who have used their Insurance Company ‘Glass Provision’, as I understand the $50 or $100 deductible.... but....

Has your insurance rate been jacked up AFTER using that provision? With Insurance Company’s, if creating a claim and having them cover the higher percentage of the overall repair cost, you can always expect getting shafted without lube later down the road...

It's always a crap shoot any time you make a claim. Ins companies use various algorithms to determine your "risk score." Moving violations will almost always jack your rate up, with claims a close second. At-fault accidents, you're screwed. Claims like windshields or hail, it's a crapshoot. My rate went up slightly after my wife rear-ended someone at a light. It did not go up further after I had my windshield replaced about 6 months ago.

It should not affect your current cost of insurance or your cost as long as you stay with your current insurer, but for any future shopping, it will still count as a claim against you and could impact the rates you're given.

My insurance co said only if they see multiple claims in a year or so, but then alluded to other reasons it could go up. They treat glass claims completely separate so my fingers are crossed...

Any such thing as a windshield edge protector to prevent edge origin cracks?

You should not see an increase in rates for a glass claim as long as it is a single claim per year. They also do not up your rate for glass repair, which they consider to be preventative maintenance as it saves them having to pay for full replacement.

Just a side note: I've always used Safelite and they are the best. They will ask if you want the Mustang logo or not on your windshield. Obviously, they have to use OEM glass to get the pony so it is more expensive.

I have gone both ways, OEM and non-OEM. Never an issue thru Safelite as they have a lifetime warranty on their glass.

Congrats on getting the new windshield OP. I know how annoying it can be to drive around with cracks. In Texas, they should practically sell the car with the windshield busted up.

Out of curiosity, anyone have their daily beater like a Camry, CRV, Accord have their windshield replaced with cheap stuff? I paid $145 for my CRV and surprisingly it’s oem in clarity

It depends on who Safelite sends. I had a bonehead who knicked my paint in 2 places with the knife they use to cut out the old windshield, as I was watching. They want to bang it out as quick as possible and quality suffers.

Safelite did mine in their shop, no scratches I can see. The mirror seems to vibrate more than before though.
